Right, here is as far as I got late last night. A couple of primer coats to cover that yellow-orange color styrene, then came several light passes with a Tamiya mix of greens. I normally lighten my colors knowing that they will darken with washes, filters and other weathering. But here on this model what green will show through will get lightened by the dust weathering. So I am working the opposite of what I do. Now for the pics. base coat of green, then using good quality oils, here 502 Abteilung ( thanks Rick Lawler of MIG Prod.). I went a little heavier on the filter, more a mix of wash and filter. This was done to seal the very matt finish of the Tamiya paints. Was thinking last night while trying to sleep that I may end up doing the chipping different....so that means there may have been no need to apply the green.... we shall see..

Desert pink base with black splinter. I have a couple of profiles and some doc about it. @rob: very nice job on that green. What base are you going to use for the sand? I found reference only for humbrol colour but I want to use Tamiya or Vallejo.

A quick painting up date. After receiving some very cool products from K4 today, including 29 bottles of paint, I just had to break out the AB and do some painting. Hats and a huge thanks to Richard of K4 for the VERY cool products he gave me to test out. I used the K4 Matt clear to seal the green, then applied AK worn effects in a few light misted coats at a high pressure. Then the fun part. I mixed K4 snad and white acrylic paint. The sand is nice and thin but the white was on the thick side. A bit of water to thin the lot, and several light coats later the model was covered. I lightened the desert tan a bit more with white and hit the upper areas that would be faded from the sun. And the chipping has started. Just couldn't resist ;D ;D ;D ;D I won't have any more time to do the chipping tonight, or for a while. Normally you would have to continue and chip this before it cures. I'm not too worried if I come back to this in a few days, I have my ways of chipping ;D ;D Well that's it for now.

LOL...knew you were gonna update after I hit the hay!! Good to hook up with you too yesterday! Way too many nice days in the summer not to hang out and shoot the bovine excrement.... ;D Way to dig in!! Another fine showing of a chip-fest!!! Being lucky enough to get my hands on some of the early paint too, I must say the Sand mixes are sweet! Partial to the OD's as well! Think K4 may have a few nice sets on their hands!! Talk to ya soon!!

Thanks gents. Thanks also for that link on the paint mix, very useful. Will be a while until I get back to the weathering, but I may sneak some time here and there.

As far as my secret to chipping after it's dried for some time....no secret, just more water and lots of elbow grease. As long as it's not weeks later I can still manage to chip the paint, after all, they are acrylics..

Do you mix the paint your going to chip with water rob? I watched Adam wilders new DVD again and he does this, I tried it and it does seem to chip easier

Spud I always have mixed my acrylics with water and a water/alc mix. depending on the type of chipping of course. For a worn white wash I use Tamiya (yellow cap) laquerthinner to hin the paint.

jackwagon the K4 paints are actually very good and the quality is up there with some of the top brands.
I'm hoping to get back to the bench next week as I am having styrene and painting DT's.....need to smell some paint....... Will be doing some painting and of course lots of weathering. Might take a bit until I have some pics to post. Trying to hang in there, just one week left to go.

LOL, I feel for you jackwagon. You were on a roll with all the scratch work. I have been hoping to really sit and do some work on the many that have base colors, but you know how it goes. I'll probably be too busy with other things after the time off and won't see the bench for another two weeks...LOL...lets hope not. I think when I get the AK mag I'll be full of mojo.

I've got the roller and the Pershing turret in the first issue. Raw steel and old texture rust. They were quick write ups since I only had a week to get them in.
