Hi folks. I built this one not too long ago and was a pleasure to build. The fit was superb not needing any filler. The scheme is unusual for a Seiran but the actual aircraft was discovered by GIs during the occupation of Japan. I used cheap hairspray from the Dollar store, decanted for the weathering. The red oxide paint is my own brew of Floquil and Testors enamel paints. The green is Tamiya acrylic paint.
The dolly was painted with oils for the wood graining effect.

Nicely done, Sir. Do you have a next project in mind? Thanks Joel. As a matter of fact I'm currently involved in 3 builds, a HB 1/48 Demon, an Academy 1/48 F-22 and an old Esci 1/48 F4E.

I must confess that I'm a real float plane junkie. My "jones" started when I saw the Kingfisher on the deck of the North Carolina. My favorite is the Japanese Pete, but gotta say I really like this one. Have almost bought the same kit two or three times, but honestly yours is the first one I've seen built up. I will get one!

Gary and Andrew thanks for stopping by. Gary
I highly recommend this Tamiya kit. I picked it up during a model show for $8. The 1/72 one is reported to be a scaled down version of the 1/48.

I'd have thought Tamiya would have done a Rufe based off there A6m2 in 1/32 scale. I have a couple 1/48th scale Rufe's stashed away, but honestly I like the Hasegawa subjects a little better. Another nice one is the Revell AR196 in 1/32 scale. Right now I'm looking a couple different flying boats to do Russian Lend Lease aircraft. Found a book that came out of Russia, that covers Russian use of U.S. aircraft. Literally hundreds of subjects! gary

The current 1/32 Kitty Hawk Kingfisher can be dressed up as a Russian one since decals are included for several nations.
And yes the ROG Arado is simply gorgeous. Since you mentioned here is a picture of mine. It appeared 3-4 years ago on a FSM article I wrote.

Nice work here PJ, can't go wrong with a floatplane, it checks both the air/sea boxes!

I remember that article in FSM few years ago. I have been reading mixed reviews about this kit from Kitty Hawk. How was your experience building this one? Or was the newer released kit bad?

Thanks Bill.

I haven't built it yet but the details look impressive. I have also read some mixed reviews citing minor fit issues with the engine and other minor things.
Once in a while what looks to be a great kit is indeed one but isometimes comes with some hiccups. As an example the Hasegawa 1/48 Tomcats build up to some mighty fine looking cats but joining and aligning the front fuselage to the rear one becomes a huge pita. Then there is the over engineered intakes with a bunch of parts to assemble but at the end, it is a fine looking cat.

I didn't know that the USSR got Kingfishers on lend lease till I saw them in a book. I saw a Revell AR196 the otherday in a 25% off stack. I may have to get it. The only Kittyhawk kit I've ever owned is their P39, and it's a very nice kit (want another two). Had the chance to buy a Grumman Duck awhile back (CA) seriously cheap. Been crying ever since! gary

It looks good. Odd underside color. That's what attracted me to this particular scheme. I read somewhere that it looked like it was assembled from different aircraft parts and a hastily green scheme was applied to make it less visible from above. It makes some sense as the green will make things blend in.
