Don't take yourself too seriously. It's just plastic.

Anyone have the low down on the AMK 1/48 F-14 that's suppose to be coming out? Heard its suppose to put the Tamiya kit to shame. The link to their site is not working but they have a Facebook Page.

it will be an F14D, and last I heard was due very soon. I've seen most of the CAD images, and this is THE Tomcat kit! They just finished out picking the decals about a week ago. Cost will be the same as the Mig 31, and that will be about $75.
It will come with armaments that are so good they almost look like resin. Two different wing sets. One set similar to Tamiya, and the others with dropped flaps. Canopy (CAD)and frame are correct compared to the Tamiya. You won't notice this unless you build it close up. Personally I wanted a very early F14 (1975 to be exact), but will buy the new F14D kit. The Tamiya kit is a later version, and is zero use to me (not saying it's bad). AMK has stated they plan on doing the very early F14a as well as the "B". In otherwords all versions. There's a push for them to do it in 1/32 and 1/72 scales. I'd rather have it in 1/72.
Might add here that there's a MIG 25 in the pipe line! I've been bugging Marten to post over here; like he does on ARC and some others. I'm on him 24/7 for an AMK F100D, and this would be a license to print money. gary

I thought about the Tamiya kit, but soon lost interest in the idea. The resin parts to back date it didn't impress me even slightly. Plus I'd have to buy another set of wings as I hate the way too far swept wing concept unless I want it parked out of the way. By the time I got it to where I wanted it, I'd have close to $150 and ready to paint. I'll just wait till next year for the correct F14. I personally think AMK and Tamiya missed the boat with the Tomcat anyway. They should have done an F100D or maybe a A7. An A26 would have been a license to print money! gary

I see your point,I just build out-of-box.AMK does have promise, let's hope for some quality stuff from them I have their L29 kit, and it's a great kit. I've seen the Mig 31 kit (the first one)up close and personal, and this was by far the kit of the year to my eyes. Especially for the $83 (guy paid an extra $10 for it)he paid. Needs zero aftermarket, unless you change decals. The L29 kit is much simpler than the MIG. Still the molding is nice, and in many ways better than Hasegawa or Tamiya. I used to be a real Accurate Miniatures fan, and now I'm a real Great Wall fan. Keep praying for GWH to do an A26! gary

uh, Sturmbird, are you wanting an A26? I'm with Tojo72. I build OOB but I have bought a kit or two that has some AM stuff thrown in it because it was a kit someone was going to do but decided to sell. Now I'll do those with the AM stuff but I doubt I'll go out to get specific AM stuff for my stash.

I've said it more than once; AMK missed the boat in 1/48th scale by going after a Tomcat. Everybody sells a kit. I'd gone after one of three or four airframes. The Convair B58, F100D, F111, and maybe the Tigercat. I'm certain the Tigercat and F100D would sell well, and we hear folks crying for a good F111 and a B58 everyday. It's a sad day when the best F100D is 1970's vintage!
