Man, I have not been good so far this year about taking pics of builds. Shoot, I haven't even started my completions thread yet and it's almost the end of the first quarter! Got the first of my spring shows this weekend, decided I'd try to bang out an entry for the "P-47 Special" category. 1/32 Hasegawa kit with the Eduard interior etch set added. Otherwise out of box including the kit markings (since I don't have anything else in stock). Started as usual with the cockpit - slowest part is figuring out where all of the etch goes, and then removing the kit details to make room for it. Painted up everything that needed to be green: And then detail painted the proper bits and added the color etch. Luckily, the Jug has a pretty open cockpit, so a lot of this work should be visible when I'm done. At least I hope so? Starting in on the engine detailing next. More to come!

Thanks guys! Moving fast on this one...should be pretty frequent updates. I suppose 'frequent' is a relative term? Hahaha...I've got a pile of pics to edit and post! Been using every bit of time I've had trying to get this thing done. Going to toss them up this morning.

Pic blast! After wrapping up the cockpit I moved onto the engine. Went together really well. Could no doubt benefit from some wiring, but I wasn't feeling up to it this time around. This pic feels "washed out" compared to the mk.1 eyeball...think my white balance is still thrown off a bit. Moved on to getting the fuselage all sealed up and the wings attached. Sprayed the zinc chromate (Tamiya XF-4) everywhere, but missed a couple of spots - going to have to hit it again before masking for the aluminum. Before I could attach the engine, I had to "build" the cowling - for whatever reason (unlike every other P-47 I've ever built) Hasegawa decided to supply it as four pieces that have to sandwich your pre-painted engine, splitter, and interior surfaces. Hmmmm. Not the route I generally like to go! Got some auxiliary parts painted up at the same time. Came out alright in the end, but not as good as a one-piece cowl would have. After that it was wing attachment, building the dropped flaps (they're there, you just can't see them behind the wing), and working out the gun barrels. In WTF moment number 2, Hasegawa basically just gives you eight pieces of styrene rod, each with two sprue attachment points. Up to you to clean them up and do all of the drilling to make them look like tubes! Unfortunately I didn't have any of the right size tube in stock, so kit parts won out. Got to do a bunch of masking and start spraying aluminum!

Hey, thanks guys! Ran into a couple of snags on Friday afternoon, knew I wasn't going to make it in time for the show, so I quit the marathon build phase. I'm back now, getting everything organized, and will be back on this guy shortly. I did have a pretty good showing on Sunday even without the jug.
