This was supposed to be a quick easy build. I was wrong. The kit itself is great. Nice detail, very good fit, Typical R2 decals. The problem was me. I tried to get cute with the paint. After cleaning up the seams and priming with Tamiya grey primer I thought I would cut corners with the top coat. The instructions call for dull metal. I settled on Tamiya silver leaf, but I had to order it online. While I was in the local hardware store I saw a can of krylon metallic silver. The cap color looked good, It's such a small kit why break out the airbrush? Well it was a disaster, the color was sparkly silver. The bad part was it was lacquer and when I tried to cover it, it reacted with anything I put on top, even primer. I tried stripping it, no good. I tried sanding it, still bad reactions. I ended up leaving it for about 2 months, sanding and re priming before I got an acceptable finish. In the end I went with light ghost grey. I painted the stand gloss black

Not to be bossy or anything, but next time, try spraying on a mule when you spray out of a can from a hardware store to see what it looks like before hitting your subject

I like the final result. The wait and all the work was worth it
Get some cheap plastic spoons and paint them. Same plastic and the curves in the spoon give you a good idea how the paint look on complex surfaces.
