Hi guys, So, a big decision i made today. I am selling all (exept my Allclad paint) my turpentine based paints, including oil paints, pigments, washes, filters, Humbrol/Revell/ extracolor paints. Also my two Mig FAQ books. These books are focused on the use of turp based mediums, largely. Why dis decision? because i want go over completly on Vallejo acrillics, washes and pigments (and scratchmod Rob's book Airbrush and weathering techniques). These are more healthy and took fewer time to dry. So i can do more on a day than do one layer of paint and wait a day for the next layer. I was painting my Spitfire cockpit and was very pleased with the results. Now i am busy to finnish the Yak-1B, and to play it safe, i decided to do the weathering in turpentine/ oil based paints. Because i pic up the plane couple of times, the oilpaints start to ware of and drying time is long. Exiting times lie ahead, and i am now focussing on the Vallejo product list. Any advice, tips tricks and comment to help me in the acrillic world are appreciated! and ofcourse opinions to!! Regards, Remco

That is a big decision my friend! Best of luck! If you ever have any questions, let me know....at least ones that are not explained in his book! The one thing you will notice, and love, is how you can keep working on something and don't have to wait for stuff to cure! Enjoy!

Thanks Todd!
When i was working on the Yak and T-30, i was thinking like ''hmm, if i did it in acrillics , i could move on...''. The Spitfire cockpit convinced me to explore the fine world of acrillics and leave the tupentine world. Vallejo is developing more and more mediums to replicate the turpetine products. When i took a good look of what i used , and what i have, i came to the conclusion i didn't use 80% of them . Also 30% is brand new. So i guess, even when i change to acrillics, my ''stash'' is going to shrink due the multi usage of acrillic products....

I think we all have a pile of items that goes unused. You are correct, there will be a core group of items you will use more than others. What I like about the acrylics is the palette. While there are a bunch of Vallejo washes to choose from, I can and do make washes and filters from any Model Color or Model Air paint. I use them to mix with pigments sometimes for textures and colors...on and on and on! From the washes, I think the two I use most are the Panzer blue and of course the oiled Earth which get used as the go-to for pin washes and more.
Like I said, and you know by know, Rob's book covers just about everything. There are many ways to come to the same conclusion as we all have different techniques and applications. We get a good laugh about stuff when driving to the shows about just that.
Most of the fun will be playing around with the stuff and learning new tricks!

Made that leap from Testor Model Master a couple years ago.... never once have I looked back. use a good primer coat, have a hair dryer handy, and thin paints to your liking ( Model Air only!)..... SEAL the work you have done with a good sealer, and let it SET... awesome product line, weathering products, pigments, and washes....just know its acrylics and not enamels so you do things a tad different.... once you are over that learning curve you will thank yourself !

I've checked and there are plenty of places here on this side of the 'pond' the pond that sell it. It costs around £20 here and from all the reviews it looks well worth it. Thanks again. All the best. Andrew

It may sound bias because I actually sit right next to this guy while he works when we do demos for the shows...but it is my friend! Just about everything anyone, beginner and above, will need! LOL...I even caught him looking in the book once to remember how he did something!

Nice rack Remco! Got a local shop that stocks the full range of Vallejo products - if you've got any problems sourcing the washes give me a shout.

Nice haul Remco! I find some of the 'splash' products a bit thick, you may want to consider thinning them.
BTW, I blame you for me having bought the AB bible as well - already learned loads, and I'm only 50 pages in. I've also become even poorer as the book inspired me to buy a Harder and Steenbeck AB...

Welcome to the club Dierk!
The book is awesome. I love it! And i am getting poorer to! Three paintsets, 13 bottles of weathering products, three pigment sets, two books. Pffff.....
But i am glad i did it. I am going to use the Yak-9U (my most unique VVS plane) to demonstrate the VVS 1943/1945 colors and a T-34 STZ for the Soviet tank multi color set.
