I am throwing my hat in the ring for the new Hal Marshman Award Challenge at Baycon this November with this kit: The Eduard 1/48 scale Bf-110C. This will be OOB with the exception of the Quickboost exhaust manifolds. I read of this kit's difficulties but I am prepared to tackle these, and as a bonus, I have all the colors I need for this Battle of Britain example.

Mmmmmmm...very interesting.
Re: the Hal Challenge - I'm assuming that things need to be marked as luftwaffe? Not just luftwaffe aircraft?

Well, this build will be somewhat delayed after I found that "sprue J" was missing. I promptly contacted Eduard who will send it out to me within 10 days. Great service.

Ok Dupes, I asked some club members and the following was decided on regarding the Hal Challenge:
Luftwaffe aircraft in luftwaffe markings. Other aircraft in luftwaffe markings. Luftwaffe aircraft in other markings. Real aircraft only.
Hope this helps.

Ok, got my "J" sprue from Eduard. Great Customer service. However, I am ankle deep in my Acura NSX build so I will put this on hold until that one is complete. I am not good at multitasking but it shouldn't take too long.

Ok, I am back to this build after the completion of my NSX. Just starting the compilation of the cockpit parts for painting. Updates to follow soon.

Been thinking about a 110 kit for quite a while but really didn't know which kit to go with. Eduard has several 110 versions out there. Anyone know if the others have the same fit problems this one is supposed to have? Will be watching closely.

Working on this and will post pios of the interior soon, however, I have a question about the top and bottom seams on the fuselage of the Messerschmidt. I know that the 109 and the 262 have these and my research pics are inconclusive, some finished models have them and some don't and actual pics are difficult to see. Does anyone have the definitive answer before I start sanding something I shouldn't?

Ok, I got the answer: Yes, there are panel lines above and below on the fuselage. Ok, the interior and cockpit are completed and contain quite a few parts including a nice set of pre-painted photo etch. The amount of parts, however, is quite tiring to deal with and seems a bit overkill. I have put the fuselage halves together and noticed that the fit isn't that good. All joints are requiring work. These include the nose, which I decided to close up even though the gun bay is nicely adorned. (time constraints on this build). It looks like there will be some rescribing in the near future. Ok, on to the initial pics:

Thanks guys, and Dupes, I am starting to think not. If I had until the show date I would be able to finish but, the time frame is shortened because of a 9 day cruise I am embarking on starting on the 3rd of Nov. and returning late on the day of the show, so I won't even be attending Baycon. I am recruiting a fellow club member to bring a few of my models including my aircraft challenge kit, so I will compete in absentia. I nearly have the wings and fuselage finished but I still need to continue with more fitting and sanding, this kit's biggest challenge.

I got everything together including the wings and tail. I think I sanded every seam. They either didn't fit flush and were high in some spots and low in others, or there were gaps. The fit of the wings to the fuselage required much trimming to get them to fit somewhat flush. These problems are the main reason I won't finish in time for Baycon. Alas, I will make a valiant attempt. So below are the progress pics. The model was primed, and surprisingly, all repairs were satisfactory. So pre-shading was followed by the light blue undersides and fuselage sides.
