Trumpeter Udaloy I Destroyer ***FINISHED***

Ok, I am back on my Russian kick, and if I keep this up, I will be getting a subpoena from the Mueller investigation. My next victim is the Admiral Panteleyev, a Udaloy Class Anti-Submarine Destroyer. This is the 1/350 scale Trumpeter model and I will be adding the White Ensign Models photoetch set, Veteran Models Ak-100 guns, and paints from AKAN. I was getting the "ship" bug and had all the parts, (except the Veteran guns which I just ordered), so I thought I can build this without marrying this project for too long. I also like the different colored decks of the Russian Warships. So here we go.

My first update on this and I have been quite busy, mostly with construction and painting of the hull and main deck. Small bits were added and the gun deck level was constructed and added. I also have painted all of the
"red lead" decks as well as other superstructure parts. As mentioned, I am using AKAN paints because the color match is supposed to be the most accurate in Russian colors. I have found that these are a little off while looking at research pics of my subject. As a result, I modified the red deck color to a more orange red tone and the gray seemed too dark out of the bottle so I lightened that a bit. I have seen other Russian ships in darker gray tones but not the Admiral P., although it is seen in various tones from numerous repaints. The adjusted gray, however, seems to be one of those.

I know I haven't posted an update in a while but the summer to do list as well as other warm weather activities have taken their toll on my building time. That doesn't mean that I have been totally stagnant though. I received the "Veteran" resin A100 turrets as replacements for the kit parts and they are little gems. The turrets are adorned with many ladder rungs and hand grabs not present on the kit parts. I have included pics of the finished products. Also, I have finished constructing the major components of the ship's superstructure and added some photo etched radar arrays, and some ladders and railings. What I plan to do next is to weather the hull and attach the ship to its wooden base before temporarily relegating it to the shelf until I finish a side project (model car; see the vehicles thread). Without further ado here are the pics:

So as you can see, as promised, I have temporarily placed this in my display case for safe keeping while I take a break from it and work on a car as a change. All major superstructure parts are installed as well as the veteran turrets, rear railings/supports, flight deck nets, and the hull is weathered. I figured it was time to attach it to the maple base before sculpting the water when I return to it. There is still much photo etch work to do as well as many small parts and details. It won't be long before I return to it though.

It has been a long time since I revisited this but I finally took it out of my display case and finished it a couple of months ago. As an aside; During the build, a plastic fluorescent light cover fell from my ceiling overnight and struck the superstructure breaking the finished bridge part into 6 different pieces and dislodging most of the second and third decks of the main superstructure. Luckily I hadn't installed much photo etch. All was repaired after finding the separated pieces and is barely visible.
