Thank you for your answers. I play with HK416 all week-end, given that I have one at home (and another brand ADCOR). I also have other toys in other calibers: Julie

don't read French very well, so I had problems. But just looking at the pics, I see a forward assist AR15 clone. Am I right? Like the way the did the fore stock, but still prefer a flat bottom. When cleaning the weapon, is everything inside chrome plated?
I lived with that platform for 15 months. Have over 7,500 rounds down the tube playing the game. A typical load out was 21 twenty round mags loaded with 18 rounds each. When you went in heavy you had another seven mags. I was the lucky one and got to sling the M16 or shotgun on my back with the machine gun in my arms. (about 110lb. light). I'd die if I had to do that today. gary

Thank you all for your responses.
@ gary: The weapon used by the French army today is a HK-416 FC (a version of AR-15). Not all the internal parts are chrome. In France, we use 30-shot chargers

In France, we use 30-shot chargers My Best Julie This will date me to within a couple years. I was issued one of the first lot of M16's. It was so early that it actually had the AR15 logo cast on the side of the receiver (only one with it in my unit, and the only M16 I ever saw with that logo). It was built with the short buffer and the light weight spring. Otherwise it was just like anyother M16 (did have the three pronged suppressor). It would go thru a 20 round mag in less than three seconds, and we nicknamed it "the hummer." Actually very controllable in full auto once you learned the art of full auto bursts. About two months later they sent a van out to make some upgrades to rifles. I got the new heavy buffer, but kept the light spring. Still shot very well, and was still happy. Two weeks later he shows up again and changed the barrel, bolt carrier, bolt, and firing pin with chrome plated parts. Still shot well, and could be cleaned with a dry rag! At the sametime all the new kids were getting forward assist rifles, and I just kept plugging away. I took a half dozen 30 round mags off an NVA Regular down south a couple months later, but just never liked them all that well. They changed the balance of the rifle and found it harder to make that 250 meter shot on a moving target. For me the M16 was just a secondary weapon, as I was stuck with the M60 machine gun. I carried the M16 with 21 mags, and a dozen loose rounds on my bottom pocket of my pants. A heavy load might add anywhere from another seven to fourteen mags. I never had a jam or an issue with the weapon, and actually liked it very well. Later on I was given a new CAR15 (medium length barrel with the long suppressor), and simply hated it. It would jam unless it was cleaned twice a day. Always unburnt powder in the bolt lugs. Plus you never want to be caught with an odd looking weapon or a side arm. Every once in awhile I'd go in with a sawed off shot gun on my back with the M60 as the primary weapon. My normal load out was 100+ pounds, and I weighed 140 pounds. No wonder I have bad knees! gary

Gary, the big difference between the two is that the 416 uses a short stroke piston gas system, where the AR's is direct impingement. It makes for a cleaner operating, more reliable weapon. Julie, thanks for posting the firing line picture. You just made this old man's day!
