Hi all As you may recall Sean sent me an old airbrush and some spare kits a few years ago, this kit was one of them. It was something my son and I did on the spur of the moment one evening a few weeks ago. It occurred to me that as it is unlikely to be used in our battles it wouldn't matter if i made a hash of using the AB for the first time, so would be a good candidate for my first AB attempt. I knew nothing about this when I got. One website has this to say about it: "According to 'Special Panzer Variants' by Spielberger and Doyle it is a Special Vehicle V Porsche Type 245/1. Combat Weight: 18 tons. Crew: 3, Armament 5.5cm rapid fire gun with a belt feed. Designed for AT/AAA targets with an elevation of 90 degrees. Powered by a 10 cylinder gasoline motor type 101 which produces 316 HP. Armour: Hull 60mm Front. Top speed of 65km/h. The design never went past the wooden mock-up scale model – stage of development." Only 16 parts!! And is almost a snap together kit, very simple to build. Primer on!! Vallejo surface primer. I played around with the mix a bit but have settled on 10-12 drops primer, 2 vallejo thinner, 1 drop vallejo flow aid and 1 drop W&N extender medium (Sean recommended the extender medium). I practised for an hour or so with some old Humbrol paint before taking the plunge on the expensive primer. Either I took on board all the advice I had read and applied it well or more likely I got lucky. Either way it went on really smoothly and I had no major issues - albeit I might have handled it a bit roughly as some bits look like the primer may have been scraped off. Thanks again to Sean, Peter and Dierk for their advice on all things AB. Seeing as I was starting to the hang of the AB I thought it would be rude not to prime a few more things , although some still need a couple more thin coats..... And it turns out those little pots of Humbrol paint that come with Airfix starter kits are perfect for mixing the primer and storing any leftovers! Thanks for stopping by. ACW. Andrew

Nice work on the primer Andrew! Keep practicing and you'll be a wiz with the AB in no time.

Nice work on the primer Andrew! Keep practicing and you'll be a wiz with the AB in no time. Thanks Leon! So will my kids - over a third of the primer on show was put on my them! At the time it was tricky getting near my own AB and booth!! ATB. Andrew

Hi all When I first came back to the hobby a wise man once said just try one new idea/thing/techinique per build to improve your skills...... Well I've already done that with the AB. So I thought in for penny, in for a pound and thought I'd try my hand a pre-shading and make it two new techniques. Whilst I know the theory, the practice as always is another matter and it was a bit heavy in places. Couple of pics below - some of the more subtle stuff hasn't shown up very well on the shots though. All comments welcome. Yours Andrew

Hi all Below are some pics of the base Dunkelgelb coat - or at least my version of it (let's not open that can of worms!!). I went on a bit thicker than I realised - I am still learning after all - so the pre-shading doesn't show through to well in the pics It is a bit more noticeable in the plastic though, especially around the engine hatch. All comments welcome as usual. ATB. Andrew
