Hi Guys - this is my first in progress build to be posted with this group so hope you like where its going. Although the star of the show is the Steyr it will be towing a 20mm Flakvierling 38 and mounted onto a base. To date all I have done is lay down base desert colors using Vallejo in a modulated format. This was after a dark grey Vallejo primer and two coats of hair spray leading up to the chipping effects. I have also simulated a thin layer of dust using very thin coats of Vallejo Aged White on most of the vehicle and which will still be adjusted as required. I have also applied some basic pin washes using Abteilung 502 Sepia oil, and is the best shadow color I have tried to date. I'm a big fan of these oils as well, and use them for all sorts of effects.
I have a bunch of storage items to add, such as jerry cans and ammo boxes to bring some color variation to the interior and give it a lived in feel. This build is very much in its early stages so lots more to come and will post progress pics as I go.
I will also mention that these early pics are all taken using an iPhone 6 mounted into a selfie stick bracket and then fitted onto a camera tripod for stability. I havent done this before but the pics look ok to my eyes at least!
Spoiler alert - the worst part about close in photos is that they pics up every detail including bad modelling - try to spot the sink marks - grrrrr - in these cases a tarp or mud/dirt can be your best friend!

Looking good Michael! May I suggest a bit more chipping around the door handles, the top of the doors where the paint would have worn off from the crew's elbows, and top of the whatchamacallthem, the 'U' shaped bars to help the crew climb in.

Great looking model Michael! Yup..seen the EPM..LOL! I think we all do that from time to time! Sometimes the camera never lies! The right figure and it would probably go unnoticed! Love the coloring and weathering! Looking forward to seeing the tow!

Been a slow weekend but progress is steady. Latest update with some internal stores with further work to be done on the windscreen and steering wheel.

Depending what is in the drum and the top "jerry can", perhaps they should be lashed in a upright position. Just mu opinion. A very fine model!

Thanks Joel - and very true. The drum is not fixed in position yet and my thought is that its empty and just laying across the seats as shown. The jerry can however was just thrown in as a weight to hold the flag down and to me is a fair thought process - much appreciated just the same Joel!

Just a quick update of the ground work for the base using an acrylic paste and various grades of rubble stones. Once its dry it will be colored with various earthy tones with some weed tufts etc.

Almost done with the base with the name plate is to be mounted properly and black felt base underlay. Final touches for the Steyr and AA gun still to do as well as fixing the grass tuffs in place. The final todo's will be the figures DAK Soldiers by War Front and fighting those last words - "is it done yet!"
The color tones of the ground work appear to be much harsher in the image, but from a normal viewing stance and the correct light it does look much better - the curse of the camera and lighting I guess LOL. Any suggestions or tips/advice most welcome..............cheers.

Geez - I created the label at work after doing a search for the Steyr's full name, and used what might of been the only incorrect search result. It should be Steyr Type 1500A/01 so dont know where the 38 came from. Oh well time for a new one............................

Thanks Paul, and it seems as though I have turned a long awaited corner in figure painting so I am glad you like them. I have since corrected the name plate and just need to add the felt underlay for the base and she will be done. On the weekend this will be my entry into the Australian Model Expo so will see how she goes..............
