Well, they are missed, and I know I won't be Facebooking anytime soon,so hopefully they will drop in from time to time.
Overall, traffic on the forum is down,I thought it was the summer.I know I haven't been building, but still check in everyday.
The guy I like know where he went is Ben Hinksey, been awhile since I seen him anywhere on any forum 5 years maybe,a good guy.

Ben went through some personal struggles and I don't believe is doing model-building any more. He's on FB and seems to have put his energies into fishing, hunting, and other outdoor endeavours.

Yes. So have they totally quit this forum, I mean there has been no MOM posts, No explanations. I have noticed some regulars not posting but posting on SMCG, like John Everrett.

To be quite honest if Facebook were the only outlet for media interaction between modelers then I guess I'd be out on that. I'm on quite a few forums and have noticed that traffic is down across the board...… significantly.

Scale Modelers Critique Group. Jim deCesar, Will Pattison and Matt McDougle run it. It's basically a "Our stuff is great, your stuff is crap" group. I think I'm going to drop out because you can't read one post without reading the "F" word 20 times and smart aleck remarks. I'ts on Facebook

I'ts on Facebook Well heck that's what I want to hear (see) is a foul worded, self centered group, to follow. OK maybe I'm being a bit sarcastic, but I have a desire to "meet" modelers and give them "at-a-boys" because they built something and had the gumption to post it on the site, while being ready to accept the "slings and arrows" of the modeling members. Me? Where the heck have I been while all this was going on? Well the "life being life" was partly responsible, plus the settings on my email were "inadvertently" (read: Stupid Operator-Me) changed. So this and some other forums were not being seen in my in-box. While, I can intellectually (?ME?) understand that FB has is the one all be all for many, I personally don't see it's super draw of people. I'm sorry to relate, I do not care what store you are at right now, how your "Chicken Salad flavored milk shake-Latte" tastes, how your "cutest son-daughter-grandchild in the world" is doing at potty training. Plus the heart felt social-grams wanting me to "enjoy-love-appreciate-understand, God-myself-others-kids-Dogs-Cats-rabbits or all manner of creatures of the forest primeval, which all are for me to pass along to all my FB friends. While tittering wildly to myself. I know this sounds like a condemnation of FB and from me a confirmed Luddite is likely is; But I do miss the friends and fellow modelers I have enjoyed on this site in the past and wish to continue to do so into the future. OK

Well said Anthony
Myself I've been getting ready for Pronghorn season, an activity that requires lots of scouting and rifle fine tuning. Season started on the sixth of this month, and all the fooling about has resulted in one tag filled and one to go. Using that rifle I posted on earlier this year I was able to make a neck shot at 400 yards off a set of sticks.
Speed goat makes excellent hot Italian sausage

I'ts on Facebook I've looked at it a few times but every time I do I think the same thing as you do about the "F" bombs and the unchecked posting. One of the things that I like about a forum being moderated is that folks can't be disrespectful. It's one of the reasons that I never joined that kind of environment. I don't view myself as being disrespectful and I don't care to BE disrespected so....why subject myself to that? In any case....and to move on with my point....places like this are where I choose to hang out.

Personally, I have no problem with the 'f' word - I used to be a motorbike courier and lived in Liverpool, so using the 'f' word is basically punctuation for me What I do have a problem with is the FB business model, and, as a European, their utter disregard for privacy and data protection - you try and log on to FB using a VPN, and see what happens... If it were a place for people to meet and stay in touch, I wouldn't mind so much. But, from what I've seen, it's mostly people making themselves look good in the eyes of their perceived peers, portraying an image that, more often than not, has little or nothing in common with RL.

Over time I've had many try to talk me into joining Facebook and they all get the same answer which is "It'll be a cold day in hell you see me there". I put up with enough posturing and drama in life so it's not like I need any more, and since I turned sixty a few weeks back my tolerance for such is immeasurably low.
Probably at its inception FB was just that; a place for folks to keep up and stay in touch but it usually does not take long for things to turn into money makers as evidenced by the Photobucket debacle. Gotta be a reason why Zuckenberg is worth billions no?
Remember Yeats: "Things fall apart, the center cannot hold". The guy was, and still is, too right

I have a facebook page and check it most days but only once a day unless I am waiting to hear from someone. It takes me 10 to 15 minutes in the morning. I don't post very much but uploading photos is very quick and easy. That said, I too, prefer forum based model website such as this fine one. I tried retiring last year and it went so well that I started looking for work again by November. I landed the last position I said I was going to interview for in 2017 in December and start work 1/8/18. It helps pay the bills but I am not used at my capacity so it leaves time to check the forums I follow daily. Weekends I don't spend much time on the computer as I spend almost all of work time sitting in front of a computer.

It is NOT an AT-A_BOY group at all. They despise at-a-boys and they will tell you that. No John I realize that in most modelers minds attaboys are an anathema. But it is not so in my little mind; An ataboy is not a bad thing and in my post I was thinking of the encouraging, positive, congratulation type of posts with any asked for critique being offered with courtesy and good will. So I misspoke(wrote) and used my definition not the universally accepted one. Tobi I apologize for causing you a linguistic confusion. I sometimes forget that as I read your posts that you are not living next door to me in California. Happy Modeling to all and to all a Goo.... too early?

I wont speak for the guys, but I know TRM and Scratchmod have been fairly busy with real life stuff, as well as some 1:1 scale work on some tanks (ok ok, I have been helping TRM too) September was AMPS, so there was that too. I can tell you they are both still building, and busy. The big lunk in particular has been doing almost full time work volunteering at the American Heritage Museum that just opened in Hudson MA.

The problem I see with "atta-boys" is that a lot of the time they seemed to have devolved into the equivalent of participation medals. People now give them out just because someone managed to glue two pieces of plastic together.

True, sometimes I will throw out a general compliment to a new member to encourage them,or welcome them, and to feel at home, usually try to find something I can comment on as a suggestion.Sometimes they are a shout out to my regulars,a way of saying hello and acknowledging good work.Other times its just a case of being in awe and having nothing to add. I appreciate attaboys as well as constructive criticism.Nothing worse then posting your work and nothing,no feedback of any kind.
