This looks pretty good from the previews. It's got a lot to live up to from the first iconic movie so it's going to be interesting to see how it'll measure up.

I was wondering how long it would take from the first announcement to coming to the theaters. A must, saw the original so many times on VHS as a kid and was so proud when I bought the soundtrack from the music store. How bad I miss the Tomcat, it's still my favorite bird. Anyone who played "F-14 Fleet Defender" by Micro Prose in the late nineties? I remember sweaty and grueling carrier landings at pitch-black darkness with too much wind and in rough sea. A bit of nostalgic hit isn't it. I wonder how much of a flogging the original is getting after the trailer hit the newt?
A lot of the folks on the Macross forums have pointed out the similarities in visual style to the Macross Plus anime. Which is ironic since the Macross VF-1 was inspired by the F-14 and no doubt Top Gun influenced M+
