Cheers folks, yesterday my hometown Ulm again celebrated its highest feast of the year, set way above X-mas and Easter, the so-called "Schwörmontag". On this second to last Monday of July, which could be translated as "Vow-Monday" and whose origins can be traced back to the 14th century on a dwelling dispute between the patricians and the guilds in the town council back then, the mayor of Ulm takes on a public oath to the people from the balcony of the city hall to be: "a just man to everybody, rich and poor, in all equal, common and honest matters, unconditionally." The act is followed by the traditional "Nabada", Swabian dialect for "bathing down" (the Danube), which lasts about an hour and during which the participants under a lot of noise, music and water splashing, and also cheers from the crowd on both sides of the river, cover a distance of about 7km down the Danube. After that the inner city streets are crowded with people partying, dancing and drinking till late night, with music (a good portion of it is live) coming from the different bars and also from stages built up in the parks and on the squares just for this occasion. If you ever consider a trip to Ulm, be sure not to miss this crazy Mardi-Gras-like event. Annexed a picture of "Nabada":

You bet, Leon.
Over the course of the years the festival became even nationwide well-known.
Here's a short video (in German), Nabada starts at 1:30min. You could spend the whole week before this very Monday in Ulm with many, many accompanying events.
