I know, there are a lot of people who feel absolute horrors when they think about assembling a single link track on a tank model, but: ... their feeling are exactly mine when thinking about these awful rubber bands. This one was stored in the original kit box, away from sunlight and in temperate climate for some years now. I said it before, I say it again. Vinyl tracks are the devil's work. Always were, always will. Good ole polystyrene, or even better metal, will never do this to you. + They look realistic, vinyl does not.

That's a well documented problem with the DS tracks. I used to built on commission. I really feel sorry for those who bought my items before I found out about the problem and quit using them and had the tracks split a few years later (by reports, some didn't even last that long).

I don't understand why Dragon ain't switching back to having both options included like they did in the past, so the modeler can decide what to use. Their overpriced kits do totally cry for this feature.

It's hit or miss. I have two sets that have been sitting in a garage that freezes in the winter and gets super hot in the summer. Checked them recently and both are fine.

How old are yours? I think my examples in the picture are also around 10 years.
As said, I don't have exactly a problem with this phenomenon, as I don't use them anyhow. I have have an affection for friultloops. It was more of an illustration for others what they might have to expect from rubber bands.

The DS plastic reacts with the plastic in the bags, kind of common. I've seen it quite often. Also, the later, lighter colored material is less likely to have issues. Their newer M48 kits have their tracks in a black material, much like AFV Club, and it seems to be much improved.
