I recently finished this StuGIII F8 to represent one of the 901st vehicles at Kharkov. I had big plans to pimp the kit out with every piece of PE I had but after about 5 hours into the fenders.. So I went mostly OOB.

These Stugs were painted the Tropen Scheme of 8020/7027. I found an recipe online but the colors were way off. I eventually tweaked the colors three times to get what I thought looked right. I've never painted this scheme before and its more complicated than I thought it would be to get the colors right. It's still not quite right and will adjust with some filters.

Perhaps you went a tad too small with the RAL7008 spots for the Tropen scheme, that's why you had problems?
The prescribed distribution according H.M.1941/281 was 2/3 RAL8000 and 1/3 RAL7008. It was the same principle like the pre-/early war scheme of grey and brown, with RAL7008 replacing the brown.

Tobias - Thanks. It's a toss between this or the Ausf B for me. Tojo - Thank you! rbaer - Thank you. That was a fun project Tobi - Maybe. Thanks for the application ratio. I tried to follow what photos were available. It was difficult to make out the pattern thru the with wash.

I like the metal work, paint work too. Ah, ya never get too old for this work Brotha, it's what keep ya young. But, I do recommend more powerful eye gear as time goes along, HA!

Tobi - The snow is a mix of Marble Powder for whiteness, Micro Balloons for volume and Woodland Scenics snow flakes for texture. This is mixed with Gloss Acrylic Medium. The result is satin so I brushed over the snow clumps with Gloss clear.
Gary - Thanks!
Steve - Oh, yeah. I must were +3 reading glasses for the detail work.
