Sorry...... Academy M60A2 that is. Intending to only peek in the box, I found a DEF Model update in the kit I bought on consignment well over a year ago. Well, that meant I got the bug. I also have aa bunch of other AM and left over Takom parts from the M60H I used to do the Magach7 last year (?) so down the rabbit hole I went. The kit itself has been reviewed several times, a mixture of old and new but better overall than Dragon. So I've read. So far, using all the AM I have on hand unless it's not better than a kit (Academy or Takom) part: IMG_0828 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_0827 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

Mr Surfacer is out and about. The turret had inconsistent texture, anywhere AFV Club style to nothing, so I'm fiddling with that, adding DEF parts and enjoying this Cold War funk. I swapped the kit searchlight out for the DEF part, much better part. This is kind of weird thing in an Academy kit: there is an armored visor for the TC's sight on the sprue but not shown in the instructions, but shown is a molded plastic mantlet dust cover and not on the sprue. Unusual. Smoke dischargers done and on (PITS) and the tow cables, kit ends with the grooves filled and drilled for copper cable and the cupola, largely finished. Three long hours later: IMG_0919 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I'll do the mesh later, after my eyes rest. And if I never see another ejector pin mark, I may scream. Each "flat" piece had four. Yuck.

More stuff: PE mesh is in, doodads are on the baskets and I went back to the rear hull, getting the tail light housings on and starting the fenders. The inner fenders I have (PE from the DEF set) won't fit the Dragon fenders I used, makes sense since they're for the Academy kit.... so I'll probably make some up from thin plastic or spare brass, not sure yet. Problem is the Dragon fenders have a tighter radius bend than the Academy fenders. I have a serious "painter's block" right now. There are currently five models in front of me awaiting weathering and/or detail painting, and I just can't get motivated, or maybe I'm just a wee bit scared of messing it up. To check that, I rather quickly finished the Meng Achzarit it he background of the above pic and painted it up, and guess what: I'm not happy with it. Rats.

Well gee whiz, it's done. Colors on: IMG_1659 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I used Vallejo acrylics, and since so much of the green was covered, went back with a very thin application of a "greener" green acrylic too. Next, finished. IMG_1783 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_1782 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I used an overall light brown wash, then pin washed with a very dark brown and finished with dry pigments. CenTex AMPS is this Saturday, this one comes with me.

Sorry for not responding, and thank you. I kind of quit checking in over here, lack of activity is the norm now and I've been stretched a little thin lately.
