I’m a rather methodical guy. I build models one at a time. Once I pull a kit out of the stash, my complete focus is on that model until it’s done. I'm a member of that club myself.

Like others have said maybe 3 or 4 at a time. But usually I'll stall because of my bench is in the same room as my wife's office. So if I have to spray I'll hold off until she's not there. And pick up something else. Currently have 2 going now and one stalled one waiting to be dusted off

Do we really want to go there? Alright, buckle up and hold on cause it's gonna get crazy! (I'll do these in order of mostly done to the least done). All 1/48 unless stated otherwise Bandi AT-ST- Need to finish painting and weathering Academy 1/72 A-37 Dragonfly- Decals and weapons 2x Revell F/A-18E Super Hornets- Finish fixing some spots that I found after priming, then paint, decals, etc Tamiya F4D-1 Skyray- Repair the areas that the decals destroyed Academy F-4J Phantom- Repair the bottom paintwork, then paint everything Kinetic RQ-4B Global Hawk- Finish fixing the seams and gaps (beast of a kit) Academy MiG-29 Ukrainian AF- Complete the building then seam and gap work Hasegawa 1/72 P-3C Orion- Build complete needs painting but I'm waiting for decals to be released Academy 1/72 B-17F "Memphis Belle"- Start painting the interior so that I can start the build Monogram EA-6B Prowler- Figure out how to get the intakes and resin cockpit installed
There's a couple of others that don't really matter at the moment. My work schedule makes painting a pain in the ass since I don't have a lot of time.

Ugh...far too many. I went through them at one point to try to get a handle on the whole situation (to try to get myself out of it). It was over 100.
I used to be a "start one, finish one" guy, too, but then I started multitasking builds to be "more efficient" with my bench time. That was over a decade ago. Snowballed from there, apparently!

It is a diverse hobby, if there are certain phases that you enjoy, there are no rules that say you have to do more than that. I don't think any of us are professional builders where modeling is the primary source of income. Therefore, I see nothing wrong with focusing on the parts of the hobby that bring the maximum joy in the limited time available. Who says you have to finish anything???

Far too many to count.
A major part of my problem stems from the fact that I model in the kitchen and my table is treble use:
- A general table for domestic admin and currently my studies; - Kit assembly; - Painting, including spray booth.
Whilst my admin and assembly 'duties' can sit side by side reasonably well, getting the spray booth and airbrush out means clearing most of the table.
Given the faff it also means that it has to be worth my while in getting it out, so I often tend to build several kits and then prime them all, then paint them all, then vanish them all, then decal them all and then finish them off, in a sort of production line.
And of course getting the airbrush and spray booth out is quite a mission and so there's not always the time, so sometimes the stash of built kits builds up.
It is then not helped further by the fact that most of the wargaming kits I build actually have two or three kits in each box, multiplying the effect.
I'll try to post a picture later of an extreme example of what I mean!!
That said I am better when it comes to doing my 'display' pieces and so far only build one or two at a time AND importantly actually finish them!
ATB.

Sorry for the late reply...below is a 'small' selection of my wargaming kits post-priming and also after the main paint work but pre-detail painting. This is probably the most extreme example of the 'mass' sessions I described in my original post but my wife was away and so it would have been rude not too!! ATB Andrew

I have 6 kits in the works atm. I hate doing things that way. I prefer to start and finish one kit at a time and I really need to get ALL those done and go back to that. But, for some reason a few have lost my interest and have been sitting untouched for sometime. I do want to finish them, just don't know when.

Oh me oh my. I'm all over the place, sometimes limiting my self to two very similar kits, sometimes scratching every itch I have at once. As of now, I have thirteen in progress, ranging from "just needs a bit of final weathering/figs/doodads" to be finished all the way to very basic assembly to "keep me reminded of what I'm building". The last is necessary when I'm doing some kind of sci-fi kit bash. My work area tends to get a little cluttered... IMG_3791 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

Jumping in here since I'm new. I have, in varying states of completion...
Pete Brock Datsun 240Z-finishing touches on the interior and chassis (90% complete) Still working on the body shape and smoothing Kurtis Kraft 500G-primed and then sanded back off to work on making it a bit smoother. Ready for attempt 2 AMT Lola (Brayton Amway)-3 tone paint job complete, but I stuck my fat thumb in the pink so repairs are necessary 😒 AMT Kulwicki Zerex Thunderbird-in primer on body and cage just started 85 Porsche 911 Turbo- Testors boxing from Fujimi's Enthusiast Line-Engine complete, chassis complete, interior mostly complete. Body still in bare plastic.
May start another one. Who knows. I have been unable to paint as of late, due to high humidity in my shop. De-humidifier died, bought a new one. Then the one inside died so my wife needed the new one. So once I get my paint area under control I'll be able to polish a couple of these off quickly. However, it is exceedingly rare for me to have less than 3 builds on the go at any one time. Patience during builds is a battle for me. I need to be able to set things aside, but also keep working. So I accomplish that by keeping other builds within arms reach

I have a about 36. And a few dios partly done. And a handful in boxes cleaned from the sprue and ready to be glued. I feel it is ridiculous having so many on the go and getting so little finished. But I'll explain why and why I actually don't mind it that much.
First of all I live in a small house without a man cave. I do my building in the living room or sometimes the sun porch while watching something with my wife. I have no dedicated space for painting ( or taking photos). So I have to do it in my cluttered non insulated shed or outside when the weather is fine. And by fine I mean not too hot, not too cold, not raining or snow. So it is mainly my lack of painting space that holds me up. But to be honest I have a handful of both military and auto models that are painted but need to be weathered and finished. These are the easy ones to do in the cold of winter. I am presently trying to get a few more autos painted so I can finish them over the winter.
Another reason is because sometimes a guy gets stalled for one reason or another. Waiting to find a set of wheels or deciding on a paint scheme for example. Or in the case of my VW punch buggy I'm not sure what to do with it. I need two or three more cause I have different ways I want to build them. I haven't settled on one idea yet.
But it isn't so bad. It is kind of fun. It keeps one from getting bored staying with the same subject. I put something away for a while and months or a year later I haul it back out and it is like a new kit again. Or and old friend. "Oh ya, I haven't seen you for a while, wow! I didn't remember scratch building this!"etc. etc.. It's like going through your stash and looking at the kits you almost forgot about and thinking " I can't wait to tear into you!".
But lets face it, who doesn't like opening the box for the first time? Isn't it a chance to feel like a kid again? I specially like it when I get a new kit from a company I've never built to see how they do it. I love looking at a scale car body fresh out of the box. You really get to appreciate the lines of the car.
When I am sitting in the backyard having a coffee, it's just easy to clean parts off a sprue and put them in little baggies until I get to start painting. and building. I keep a little tube of glue by my side and will even start gluing engine halves together and what not.
So, I"m okay with it. I get kits finished once in a while. Some are detailed, some curbside some military, some drag cars some beaters etc., it keeps things entertaining to me.

So there IS a name for my condition! And all this time I just thought I had the attention span of a squirrel…
“Hi, my name’s Jeremy and I’m a plastiholic.” “Hi, Jeremy!”
Anyway, for kits started, it’s way too many to count. But as far as “current” projects that actually have my attention, it’s about eight right now. But I’m not focusing on completing builds yet. I paint outdoors, so my focus is mostly on getting stuff painted and ready for winter, when I’ll start assembling. When winter hits, I’ll have to come up with another excuse…
I’m currently working on these:
AMT ‘77 Pinto Pintera AMT ‘71 short body beetle Revell Porsche Boxster AMT ‘70.5 Camaro Atlantis Son of Troublemaker AMT ‘70 Corvette (in primer, but still undecided about what direction to go) AMT ‘67 Chevelle pro street Revell ‘71 GTX
Didn’t realize that many of my builds were so close to 1970.🤔

I used to be the start a kit, get bored and change it up kind of person. But that led to having several open unfinished kits. Once they are finished, Ill switch to the one at a time builder. That clearly works out better in the end for me.
