I was starting the Academy K9 and was kind of thrashing around when somebody suggested I do a conversion to the KRAB, basically the K9 with a British AS90 turret and different gun. Sounded good to me, especially since I had a Trumpeter AS90 in the stash, so it was off to the races. I had to change a few things on the hull, the most involved being raising the rear corners and adding access doors. Other smaller things are different as well, but nothing major. The turret will be quite different with different NBC and AC units and a different gun tube. So far I've got a good start on the hull and gun tube, still looking for good detail pics of the back of the turret though. Proof of concept: IMG_3722 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I had a decent start on the K9 hull, so a lot of stuff had to come off and get cleaned up: IMG_3728 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I used plastic stock to build up the corners and do the access doors: IMG_3774 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The gun tube needed stuff rearranged and changed, nothing a few hours with a razor saw, plastic tube stock and Aves 2-part putty couldn't fix: IMG_3775 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I'll probably do the muzzle brake next, it's a big huge thing made up from plates rather than cast like the AS90 part is.

A good start to a massive project it looks like Russ!! I just get a kick out of how you make stuff up as you go along, and it always turns out first class. You, good sir, bring alot of ingenuity to the table with these builds of yours.

Thanks Joe! I do admit to getting a real kick out of conversions and scratching parts out of "junk". The tan part on the gun tube is made from half of an M60 drive sprocket, chucked into a cordless drill, my "hand-held lathe". It took a fair amount of rummaging around in the stash to find something suitable, and once I got that started, the rest of it kind of fell together. I enjoyed that process as much as building and painting a kit OOB, probably more actually.

A quick shot of the gun tube and muzzle brake all in green. It's taken on one of my shelves of shame, only cos it's too big to fit anywhere else... IMG_3778 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

Now THAT'S a big gun!!!
I've got a couple of models that I really would like to build up but like this one, it takes up waaaay too much space when it's all said and done.

I was running out of room too, so I sold about 30 on eBay, otherwise I'd be boxing some up.

I used to sell some things on Ebay but then they started taking a larger chunk of the profits and NOW if I were to sell over $600 worth, I'd be getting slapped with a 1099 as taxable income??!! WOW!!! I do get your point about the room though. I'm already eyeballing other display options. lol

That's a HUGE gun on a tracked rig, sheesh!
Build a curio cabinet, move the wife's plates out and put in your models.
P.S. Be sure to have another curio cabinet ready for her, otherwise you'll be in the doghouse!

With or without the dog? If I did that, it would be without the dog. The dog would be moved into the house. lol

I need a dog first... Space-wise, I'm jammed. I have three cabinets, two of them pretty big, in a 12x14 room along with my work area, a tool box and several file cabinets and bookcases. It's tight.

Ugh. IMG_3791 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_3792 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_3789 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I cleaned up my work area (really!) the other day, but the place is still pretty packed. And I haven't permanently shelved the KRAB, just waiting for... something, I don't know what.
