1/32 Tamiya F4C- Revell RF4C Kitbash

I completed this a few years back and it took over 18 months to complete it. I built it in honor of my friends USAF Pilot L Clark , and his Crew Chief D Dixon whom were technical advisors on this build. The Revell offering had one too many incorrect features to just build it alone. A combination of the Revell front fuselage and the Tamiya body made it possible to make it as close as possible with some added changes. I put Seamless Suckers, Avionix cockpit along with scratch built pieces for the office. A combo of Brassin, Avionix and Quickboost resin kits for the MK 7 seats. Isradecals and Eduard pe along with resin engines and pylons made for me by the CC D Dixon. This is  RF 4C Tail # 65-0866 of the 12th TRS 460TRW at Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam in 1969 that Larry "Lars" was in and D. Dixon was CC. The amount of scratch building in this is extensive. The photoflash pods, entire camera bay interior and components of the cockpit included.

Thanks Joe!   It was a tough room getting the nod from both of them for different components/panel lines ect. I was sent the Dash One book from the CC Donnie. Basically an owners manual of an F-4. I forgot a couple pictures

The operators manual goes a looooooooooong way in helping with the details. I've got a-10 for a Huey around here somewhere that's gonna help ALOT when I make it to my Huey build.

I have a 1/32 Tamiya "Smokin' Thunderhog" in my stash, which I hope to build one day. The SEA camo and the Phantom simply make a perfect pair, IMHO.

Thank you! Both the Pilot and Crew Chief are modelers themselves. We decided all three of us would attempt to do a kitbash as a 'build group' so to speak. It was nice getting feedback from them both as each of us attempted to get through challenging areas of the mess we had before us. The Pilot Larry had his at an IPMS event in Austin TX a few years back. Mine is a shelf queen on my computer desk.

That's an awesome build and incredible scratch work, too. It's always an awesome thing to have the actual life participant available for technical support. You did some really incredible wire runs there, excellent. As a former "Load Toad", weapons loader, I'm glad the F-4's were gone by the time I got in. The old-time loaders said the Phantom bites were incredibly painful and I can only imagine. I worked on F-15's and 16's when I signed up, lol.

Thank you! They both had some rather interesting stories about their time deployed to Viet Nam. They both also stayed in the service and I believe Larry's last flight in an F-4 was in the mid 80's

Brent, I don't want to write the whole twelve paragraphs it would take to properly comment, but you can be sure it would all be more than good. What a beauty, and so much better to have inolved the guys who were there.

What a fantastic finish! I couldn't make myself do this. The magnitude of the project, coupled with me knowing that I'd jack SOMETHING up trying to meld the two kits together...yikes.

It seems like it'd be that way but it's easier than you think. I did the same thing with my Tamiya....ish Fw190 D-9. I used a slew of Eduard D-9 parts on it, to include the complete main landing gear, and it came out better than I thought it would.
