Hello all! As with many, I received an email from Joe, extending an invitation back to the forum. I’m extremely excited and glad to see the forum going strong, and building a strong member base once again with so many past members returning and new members joining. As a forum owner myself (I’ve had a few through the years, on wargaming, with a small section on modeling), I know how hard it is running a forum, especially in these days of social media “quickies”… I encourage members to reach out and thank the staff/mods for their hard work, especially Joe!
I believe I posted an Intro somewhere here when I joined… that was back in 2013! The Cliff Notes version of my bio is: I used to build models as a kid, back in the 1960-70’s, and they were just slapped together, no paint. They used to be toys to me back then, versus more of the ilk of art today. Back around the the early 2000’s, I discovered forums, many of which had model building sections, and was shocked at how far the hobby had advanced… not to mention the prices! I was amazed and inspired by the cadre of modelers on those forums, at the proficiency and artistry of these folks… they inspired me to be better at building models. I’ve joined a few forums over the years, but this one was a favorite, which is why I’m glad to be back!
My sweet spot is WWII, particularly armor, but I’ve branched out a lot into Sci fi. Though my college degree is in Fine Art, I’m proficient in hand brushing models, but these early forums also got me into airbrushing, which was a game changer.
I’ve not built in many years, but having retired from the Federal government last March I now have the time (…and more importantly, no longer a stressed out, burned out wreck of a life) to finally building again. Last August, I took an old Panther build and refurbished it with a Winter scheme as a pro bono donation for a wargaming convention; and am building a Panzer IV for the same convention this August. Those projects have relit the burner pilot!
My newest focus has been on simple diorama bases to show my work…it’s totally new to me and exciting to add to my bag of tricks. Model building is a state of constant learning so, a place like this is Gold for inspiration and support. I look forward to engaging wit all of you!
