WWII German Panther Type G, 1/35 scale, Tamiya

This was the first model I built, upon my reentry into the hobby 15-20 years ago. I'd joined a history forum, which had a model building section, and found inspiration in the builds there, and the advancement in kit technology from when I built kits back in the 1960-70's. I wound up joining a Group Build contest and this was the kit I'd entered! It was the first time I ever painted a model not only so extensively, but also in acrylics. Everything was hand painted, with Tamiya acrylics -- hell, I should have been given a medal for that alone, as Tamiya is terrible for brush painting (IMHO). It was also my introduction in the practice of extensive research in the subject, particularly the camo colors and pattern.

I was pleased with the outcome but consider it very newbie. I'll let you judge for yourself.

An upgrade done for preparing this old build for a pro bono raffle prize at a wargaming tournament in August 2022. Altered the paint for whitewash, and weathered with snow and a little mud, all placed on a first ever built diorama base.

Excellent rework on the paint job! Looks like it was always meant to be that way. Nice Nice build, especially for your first.

All things considered pretty good for a first shot, and your upgrade is very good.

Tammy acrylics do work well for brushing, you just have to thin them the right amount and resign yourself to doing two to three coats.

Thanks all. It was a favorite, as it was my first build reentering the hobby… it was a little bittersweet to see it leave the collection but, I’m glad it helped generate a little money for the host of that wargaming tournament. He took over the reins of the tournament several years ago, and barely breaks even on the costs of the hotel ballroom and all the logistics. He used this as a raffle prize, which helped with the overhead costs, so I feel the model is working for a better cause than sitting on a shelf! He asked for another model for this Augusts’ tour, this time as the Grand Prize trophy, and offered to pay for it, but I just can’t charge him for it, since his running the tourney is a total act of devotion to the wargaming hobby. I had a couple WWII German Panzer IV’s in my stash so, I’m in the starting phase of building that for him (…I’ll start a thread soon’).

On this build, it was not only my reentry build, but the first where: I took more care (beyond what I did as a kid back fifty years ago!) in building; thoroughly researched the subject for as much accuracy as I could muster; first real attempt at painting (I did a Corsair back in the 70’s and painted it with Testor’s enamel as Pappy Boyington’s bird…it was horrible!; and my first entry in a forum Group Build. It was a groundbreaking kit for me.
