I built this in 2019 as part of a group build. This kit is huge! Over 2 ft tall with the escape tower. It's an excellent kit, but needed some dressing up. I added cockpit wiring, scratch built the parachute, and added some interior details. I love this kit and how it builds! The hull is painted Tamiya semi matt black, Ferrari red for the escape tower, red primer misted with black for the heat-shield. I'll post some build photos tomorrow. Thanks for looking. And thanks to 406 Silverado for the new section to post it!

Now this is a great subject with some great results Mark. All the details you added along with the painting make this one really stand out. Looking forward to seeing the build shots.
No problem bud, my pleasure.

This is an awesome build! As a child of the 60s, I’m drawn to this subject matter and I’ve been wanting to do rockets and space capsules for a long time, and have thought about it many times …but then it always comes down to, where would I display it! What are your display plans? I love that you put in the parachute! That’s attention to detail. Great paintwork, and a real nice clean build. Kudos!

I started with the Escape tower, and generally worked down. The antenna housing. The destabilizing flap has has a spring that has to be mounted. The parachute compartment lacked detail. So I built a bulkhead with a separator for the main and reserve chute. And sculpted the chutes from apoxie sculpt.

It fits nicely on the top shelf of my primary display area. EDIT: Updated the photo

Man you've got quite the collection going on right there Mark!
Good move on fabricating those chutes and bulkhead. It's all the small things that add up at the end for a good turnout like this one's got.

Hah, reminds me of the Revell Saturn V rocket lingering in my stash. Talking about height? 1.14m at 1:96 scale!

Build it! And post photos!
I have the 1/144 in my stash. One day I'll get to it.

That looks awesome displayed… Love the collection, too! Are those Star Trek phasers all built-models?
