Well Hot Damn, for a first try at brush painting, you nailed it! …gorgeous work…especially the propeller; a good friend of mine, who built lots of WWI biplanes taught me that the quality level can be defined in how well the *wood grain* comes out, and that prop looks amazing! What did you use for the rigging? What’s your anchoring method?

I have since discovered EZ line. I drilled tiny holes where the lines needed to be secured and applied a small daube of CA glue. This was an interesting build because I subsequently not only learned about EZ line but found out there are aftermarket scale turn bolts and anchor pads available for WWI a/c. It's sort of learn as you go in terms of building subjects with which I'm not too familiar. Cheers, C.

For line, I’ve been meaning to order some Gutterman Invisible Thread Invisible Thread, which looks fantastic for rigging.

That's a nice model, well done. A black sharpie would color the wires if you chose to do so.

Nice job on the Albatross D.III. I have always liked the look of that Aircraft. I think the hand painting on this one really looks good, it brings out the fabric material that they were made off. Thanks for taking the time to photograph and post.

Thanks again everyone for the positive comments. I was too lazy to drag out my airbrush (it was packed away) so I decided to brush paint this a/c. I used acrylics and really thinned the coats out so I wouldn't have brush stroke marks. I wanted to emulate the box art which showed a sort of streaking. Multiple thin coats were applied until the desired look was achieved. I used a flat brush approx. 1/2" wide. Each panel on the fuselage was painted (streaked) in a different direction to break up the overall streaking effect. I was pretty happy with the outcome as I don't think I could have achieved this look with my airbrush. I think when I'm ready to pull this out and put it on a diorama base I'll darken the rigging lines as suggested and add several figures. Again, thanks for the comments, they are very encouraging. I have several other WW1 bi-planes in my stash that need attention.
Cheers, C.

Gorgeous work. Your brush painting prowess will be legendary, if it isn't already...(And it should be) You nailed the fabric/worn look. Love it!
