I was searching the web for reference photos on the zot gun and found this. A very dark handle. That photo is from the NASM in DC, I was just there in December so I looked through the photo's I took and found this: The handle is now almost brass colored. This is really gonna help you out with this build Mark. Got any more progress on this one?

Just a little, I've been preoccupied with life and getting the MGB set for the spring/summer.
I have been working on the ZOT gun, it's all hand painting.
I painted the umbilical with Revel gold rattle can, but I don't like it. I'll probably airbrush it with Testors gold enamel.
I should have an update soon.
This was supposed to be a quick build-oh well, that ship has sailed.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do next with this one.

A small update. Some detail painting. Started on the camera, continued on the ZOT gun, did a bit more on the suit. I washed Ed's face with a white/tan wash and made a 1st cut at his eyes/lips.

Looks like you're getting there one bit at a time Mark. To me, the eyes are the most difficult parts of figure painting. I've always heard to put the eyes slightly looking off center as if the subject is glancing at something to the side. Looking good so far buddy.

The whites should just be two small sections at the side with the iris filling the center.

This would be an ideal subject for a tinted Future wash to bring out detail, define lines and add shadows without changing the white too much. Loads of shadows in creases and the suit is not stark white. Without tinted Future With. Pay particular attention to the gloves and boots as this is the effect you would get on the space suit.

I was planing on doing a light grey wash before flat coating Ed. I never thought about a tinted Future.
Good idea!
I did a bit of preshading with blue and so far I like that look but, as you say, he needs some shadow work.

Not much new, I'm continuing to detail paint.
I'm thinking of trying some gold bare metal foil on the umbilical.

Minor progress. Detail painting but I did get the umbilical covered in gold BMF. I'm mostly happy with it, mostly. I hope to get some more work done on him this weekend.

A tiny update. I decided to glue some fishing weights to the inside of the capsule/stand to help hold Ed upright. I'll have to touch up some paint. And I continue to work on his face. The eyes are getting closer, still need some work.

Just a suggestion, but I’d try enlarging his irises. After that, you can work on the eyelids to get a more natural look.

Agree with the guys... you are getting there! I love painting figures and I learned an easy trick and it is to paint the top eyelid little closer to the center to make the eyes look more normal and less round. I found this video clip very helpful and maybe you can enjoy it too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bQkQiMKex0Keep up with the good work!

Getting closer. Ed's arm went on very nice, no filler needed. The helmet bottom not so much. It will need some work. His chest pack is not glued on, I still have some work to do on it.

No photo's but I'm still plugging away at Ed. The helmet seam is horrible. The 1st really bad fit I've had on this kit. Filling, sanding, filling, sanding. Who would have thought that such a small area could take so much time!

Awesome! I think the eyes look better now... good job! Show the kit you are the boss and you will win the battle!

Thanks,
I got some more paint on Ed's helmet today.
He is drying now, I'll see how he looks tomorrow.
I've also started painting the red capsule highlights.

Looks like the helmet will be ok. His faceplate will cover any imperfections left. It's hard to see in the photo's, but the red capsule details look good.

A very short update. Eds faceplate is painted. A coat of Tamiya clear yellow and medium grey for the frame. I'll be away for a few days so nothing more will get done until next week. I should be able to go to the Smithsonian Air and Space museum this week, they have Ed's complete EVA set up on display.
