That PE looks like some job. Nice progress so far.
I have good memories of the Kuznetsov... Microprose F-14 Fleet Defender, 1994: My Wingman and me were on CAP with VF-41, West of the Norwegian coast, when he was shot down out of nowhere. There were two good chutes and six SU-27 looking for trouble. A quick call for the "Ready-5" and next I found myself in one of the most intense fur-balls I ever experienced in a computer game. I managed to down four of the enemy jets, one was caught by the support and the last managed to escape. Turned out a Russian carrier group had launched an all-out attack on the Nimitz. We hauled a$$ back to the carrier to intercept incoming anti-ship missiles, with no ordnance left on my aircraft except for the guns. The Nimitz took heavy damage, but under billowing clouds of black smoke she was still there. A Strike Group then in return went out and sank the Kuznetsov. It was a good day.

What a very cool subject. Certainly am impressive load of PE to go with it. Appears that you are off to an excellent start on this epic undertaking. Excited to follow you on this journey.

I am envious of anybody that can actually finish a 1/350 ship. I have at least 3 carriers about 40% complete that have sat on the Shelf of Doom for at least 8 years now.

That kit languishes in my stash, think I picked it up in Shreveport,La. Impressed by the MASSIVE box, have not looked into PE for it yet as I don't have room to display the beast....yet. Being a Cold War Veteran and a sailor to boot Russian ships hold a special interest for me. Know your enemy so to speak. Only seen one Russian ship while deployed, it was an intelligence gathering vessel, came within 500yrds Port beam during an unrep operation. Capt. requested an " emergancy breakaway, kicked Ranger into hi gear and we departed area at a tremendous rate of fuel consumption. I remember it was a BIG ship bristling with radar and antenna. Being an idiot and thinking I was funny I flipped them the obligatory bird... Of course more than likely they never saw it. Thanjs for stoking the boilers and keeping my interest alive to build that behemoth.

You are doing a great job on this. Are you going to add any details to the deck...Planes, Equipment, etc? This would be a great compliment to my recent build of the Moskva.

This is just incredible work!! There's so much to look at and you're not anywhere near close to being done with this. There's a guy named Steve Luckinbil on another forum that builds ships and I have to say that you guys are just out of this world with this stuff. Keep 'er comin' Rod.....this is truly a gem to look at in any build stage.

Not to build mind you, but just to collect that amazing box art! A true testament to Soviet Cold War ingenuity and forward thinking. I do not think any other country in the world has been able to successfully develop a modern convertible submarine/cruiser!

How’s the detail on this kit? I can’t really tell from the photos. Love these big carries so interested in following along. That PE’s going to add a lot.

Man you're really going the extra mile on this one Rod. The results of all that masking speak for themselves. I've always admired ship models and I've often thought of building a destroyer just to say that I've built something in the marine world. Looking good potna and looking forward to seeing more.

Masking for white line painting ... I think the look of the deck is more realistic like this, rather than using decals ... what do you think? Are you going to weather the deck? The lines look perfect. Too perfect.

I would recommend the Revel 1/144 Corvette. Relatively easy for a ship model and the scale is nice for detailing.

Yep painting the lines is a big improvement. Do you have any pics of the deck to go off of for weathering? I know early on you had limited info it sounded like.

Ummmmm Yes, but the Surcouf was a submarine with surface ship guns. The Moskva was a surface ship that turned into a submarine! Can't beat that!
