Ok a little bit of a back story to start with...
Over the last 10 years, I've made a few lifelong friends at work... very few... One of these being the maintenance supervisor. He is an older gentleman, planning to retire in the next couple years... a godly man.. a mentor.. a pastor.. a genuine good friend. We have bonded over the years and had several conversation about life, cars and everything in between. He's often said he wished we had been closer in age so we could have hung out back in the day. He's always been interested in my model building and has said on several occasions, "I'm going to get you to build me a car one day." I always responded, "Robert, just say when."
Right around thanksgiving, he told me he was thinking about leaving the company for another job offer. We talked about the pros and cons for days.. he prayed on it. Talked to his wife about it, and got my feedback daily... He eventually took the offer and at the end of January, we all said our farewells...
On his last day, he brought me a beat up box of the AMT 70 Camaro "Orange car" and a pretty terrible picture. He said, "This is the one I want you to do. Just like mine. This is the only picture I have of my car. Mine was full bumper though. And those wheels don't match mine either." I told him, I'd try my best.. His reply, "Yeah I know. But I ain't worried about it. This way, at least we'll have to get together someday."
Since his had a full bumper, I dug my full bumper kit out of the stash... I really never expected to build this car...
Here is the picture..
And the journey began... Tamiya TS1 and a set of centerlines from the parts boxes...
The decals gave me fits... and I have a couple little things to button up, but we're right at the end of the road for it. I'm looking forward to passing it along...
I just hope he digs it...
As always, thanks for looking...

I just got through with one of these and have to say that this kit has its challenges, but it looks like you were able to get this one together pretty dang well. I'm very sure that your friend will enjoy the heck out of this Jeremy. I liked the entire story behind the build and can relate. I've done the same thing a few times myself and it's always a good feeling when the completed build is presented to the person you're giving it to.

Thank you folks... it is much appreciated! Did you have the same fit issues at the front of the windshield to dash as I did? That was one of the biggest challenges of this kit aside from changing the stance up was for me.

Thank you folks... it is much appreciated! Did you have the same fit issues at the front of the windshield to dash as I did? That was one of the biggest challenges of this kit aside from changing the stance up was for me. absolutely... it was sitting up like a one of those carolina squat trucks. I had a suggestion of trimming the back of the dash down. After test fitting everything, you couldn't see the back of it anyway, so I whittled away a little at a time til it sit flush. you weren't kidding about putting this thing together and taking it apart over and over and over again...
also... I was going to flip the spindles to drop the front end a little lower, but completely forgot til after they had dried. If I ever build this kit again, I'll definitely go that route... but I don't know that I ever will unless I finish my Camaro generation build I started many many moons ago.

Yeah these kits can be a handful....but they are rewarding to the patient builder. I've got two more in the stash...one of which is the Baldwin Motion Camaro.

I've got a copy of the orange one and a baldwin motion as well. I'm sure he's probably going to try to get me to keep the one he gave me...

I was just thinking and I don't know if I posted this on the other site or not but the orange kit as well as the Baldwin Motion kits have the park / turn signal lights positioned right next to the headlights. One of the most horrible attributes of those kits are the headlight and park / turn signal light buckets and their corresponding lenses. If you're going to build those make DAMN sure that you trim the outside edge of both lenses prior to installing into their buckets so that they fit INTO the bucket and not ONTO them. It'll result in a "bugeyed" look if that extra step isn't done.
