US Army Armor and Cavalry Collection Open House

The weekend of April 29th, the Army will open up its collection of armor to the general public at Fort Benning, GA.

I have visited this collection of over 100 tanks twice and if you are an armor modeler it is something you have to see. During the last visit I made, in the fall of 2022, I took over 1000 pictures and still didn't photograph all the tanks.

The open house is free, but you do have to go to the Ft. Benning Visitors center and get a pass onto the base.

The US Infantry Museum is also at Ft. Benning and it's another must-see.

Now THAT would be something to go see right there. Wasn't that the one that you posted a thread about with all those pictures in it not too long ago Brian?

If you love tanks, its an amazing place to visit, they have vehicles from WW1 to modern day. Yes Joe, was the location of those pictures.

For armor modelers, the ability to get 1st hand looks at the tanks and taking reference photos is invaluable.

If others from the forum go, we could have a forum meet and greet.

Sometime in the next couple of months I have to make a trip to our Flowery Branch Georgia plant to look at some equipment we are consider getting for my plant. Old Google maps tells me that would put me about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive away. If I booked the site visit for April 27-28 and a flight home on the 30th that would leave the 29th wide open.

Have you ever visited Bovington? The next time I'm in the UK I'm going to make the pilgrimage there.

No I'm afraid I don't get to too many museums as I've got a disability that means I can walk round to far or stand up for too long

It will all depend of if work will approve the date. I have already sent out emails to the other plant to see if those days work for them. Was a trip I need to make anyway so may as well attempt it.
