Here is a spaghetti kit I picked up while at the Tokyo Sky Tree tower in Japan. I replaced the cheapy paper plate and wood fork with...a cheapy plastic bowl and fork. The fork looks particularly good, considering it's just chrome plated plastic. The wax noodles are heated in warm water, then wrapped around the fork and draped into the bowl. Heat and apply the sauce, cut up the condiments, and dinner is served! Mmmmmmm. There are many other dishes to choose from. The kit is from Gansou Sampuru, makers of faux food for the Japanese restaurant industry. They have a shop in Kappabashi, Tokyo, where you can buy all manner of finished display foods, from drinks to entrees to desserts. They even have super realistic broiled fish, squid, crabs and lobsters. A friend went ala carte, and bought some tonkatsu (pork cutlet), two scoops of rice, some shredded cabbage, and to top it all off some pink ginger! It took a bit to ask the clerk for the ginger as we didn't know what it was called (shoga). They had the little stuff hidden away in drawers, so we couldn't just point like dumb tourists. My friend that bought the tonkatsu made the ramen kit. He's quite a talented fellow when it comes to stuff like this.

I never knew any of this stuff existed save for the Ramen in a Cup model that I think Bandai puts out. Incredible work on these Neal. WOW!!!

The idea of non edible food display is not new, but I must say the Japanese have a talent for putting things to the max, only excelled by the North Korean, if I may believe James Franco in "The Interview".

The fake squid had chromatophores. Those are the little cells that allow the squid to change colors. I could not figure out how they painted that tiny stuff on. The king crabs looked like they were just lacquered real crabs. The char marks on the broiled fish looked utterly realistic.
North Korea has a fake food industry? They should focus on real, edible food. Uh-oh, the theme from “Team America” is starting…

Good to see your penchant for the out of the ordinary and non-mainstream is in good order. Got to admit, it is quite realistic. Well done Neal and thanks for opening us up to the wider world of modeling possibilities.

Well, this takes "sniffin paint and gluin them fingers together" to a whole new meaning. Unlimited imagination, I recon!

Hiya Joe Rix! I haven't seen you on the other forum in a while. Hope you are doing well! Yeah, I'm a short attention span kind of guy, so I'm always looking for that next weird, off-key model.
Steve, if you tried sniffing these models they'd smell like paint! If you tried tasting them - plastic! When I was a young lad in the early 1970s, "huffing" was a thing. But me and my friends thought it was really dumb, since glue and paint was expensive! We thought teenagers that did it were morons.

We thought teenagers that did it were morons. If they weren't when they started they sure were after doing it a while!

Awesome stuff. Now I know why the food we get and the food we see on the menu is so much different. The pics are scale models. Too funny, so cool.

Andy from Andys HHQ did a few videos of the big show in Japan the last week, LOTS of Tamiya stuff related to what I would consider cake and candy decoration. Very interesting to see hearts and butterflies next to Gundam.
