Revell 1/48 F84

Here is a fantastic kit from Revell featuring outstanding detail and fit. A smooth glossy black paint undercoat is the secret to get the NMF effect from Alclad. The black paint was hand polished with Novus to get a super slick wet look.
To protect the Alclad Polished Aluminum paint from masking and decal application I sprayed Gauzy Shine Enhancer which doesn’t affect the reflectivity at all. This stuff sprays on beautifully and levels out smooth as glass.






This particular picture captures the NMF effect that is hard to see in other pictures but it’s there. Some panels were sprayed with different Alclad shades to get subtle tonal panel colors.

That turned out very well indeed. I have never had any luck at all with Alclad so will have to try shine enhancer.

WOW!! What a finish on this beautiful build. I was going to ask how you got the Alclad sealed off to do the decaling but saw that you used this Gauzy Shine Enhancer on the Alclad. Does this stuff work on the Alclad Chrome as well without tarnishing the finish? If so, I'll be picking some of this stuff up.

Are the checkerboards decals on this one?

Beautiful work PJ! Those Korean War F-84s were so colorful in their unit markings. Throw in your excellent NMF work and you've got a real gorgeous build there!

Thanks. Yes it will work on chrome too and will not reduce the effect. The checkered areas are Aero Master decals I picked up on sale from Squadron 5-6 years ago for $1. I bought a bunch of different ones to have in the stash.

Thank you! The checkering on the tanks were quite an interesting experience. Solvaset made sure all went down as if painted on.

They sure were. I even got some limited run kits for just about peanuts. They used to have some really outstanding sales before they went belly up.

Yep, same one. I only used the am decals and modified the side fuse doors to an E or F, I forgot which. Otherwise it’s OOB. I also hand striped both wing iron bombs.
