Thank you Gary. I like most any era warplanes, but I DO NOT like the rigging on most biplanes... I think that is the main reason that I do not build them more often. I've only built one other biplane in the past 40 some odd years...

Great looking little plane. The rigging looks pretty spot on. Planes from that era are challenging for sure, you built a great one! Thanks for sharing!

Hey, I remember that! Originally an Aurora kit.

Thanks Matt & John!
John, that kit did indeed start out life as an Aurora kit. That was the last boxing that Monogram did, where they updated the molds a bit in the late 70's.

I guess that I will get the ball rolling on the completed WWI builds here. This is Monograms upgrade and reboot of the old Aurora 1/48 Sopwith Camel. I added a little extra detailing in the cockpit, but you really can't see it due to the small opening. Its not up to the quality of the new Eduard & Roden 1/48 biplane kits, but looks good enough on my shelf. What a beautiful build Carlos!! And it's an old Monogram offering at that. You're right about the Eduard kits but I think Wingnut Wings makes one of these too and according to those that I've seen build them THOSE kits are touted to be some of the best on the market.

Very nicely done Stik. You did a heck of a job on making that Aurora kit look sharp. Beautiful prop. That stands out to me. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Joe. We had a guy in OC IPMS who was a world class builder of WWI aircraft, and he was a bit obsessive on the props of that era. I guess some of that rubbed off on me from seeing his work and listening to his explanations. Of course mine do not hold a candle to his skill level…

Anyone that can make a dang Monogram kit that good has got my respects.

Thanks Joe. Monogram kits are what I grew up on... along with Revell, Aurora, Hawk and a few others... It was a rare thing to get any of those Japanese kits, and back in the day, they sure weren't "all that".

I think it was John (jeaton) that reminded me that the instrument panel was merely a decal and the pilot had that big "fin" on his back to be installed into the cockpit rear wall on the old Monogram Corsair, Hellcat and Wildcat kits. That was the standard back in the day though. Modeling companies could NEVER get away with that now or even 20 years ago for that matter.

That's a great build! Great job of showing what can be done with these older kits. I have just recently tried making turn buckles out of wire on the old Hawk/Testors Nieuport 17. They turned out way out of scale but I now have a handle on how to do it.

Even have a Tom’s Modelworks PE set to dress it up a bit. At least the overall silver dope paint scheme will be easy enough to do 😉 But I draw the line on those homemade turnbuckles at this point in time… after all Gaspatch makes turnbuckles in their line of products.😜
