Fine Molds has just released a mini-vignette of Porco, the protagonist in Hayao Miyazaki's film "Porco Rosso", relaxing in his secret lagoon. Suddenly, the phone rings - could it be another job for the dashing mercenary aviator?    If you love flying or anime, or both, Porco Rosso is an exhilarating fantasy that only Miyazaki can pull off. The scene depicted in the kit is from the beginning of the movie, where Porco gets a call to go after some air pirates.  The illustration on the box shows a couple of differences to what the kit provides, so it should be fun doing some mods to bring the model even closer to the animated scene. |

This rocks and I love Porco Rosso! I have models of both his and his main antagonist's plane in 1/72 scale. One kit came with a 1/24 scale Porco figure that I need to finish painting. I want this scene!

This rocks and I love Porco Rosso! I have models of both his and his main antagonist's plane in 1/72 scale. One kit came with a 1/24 scale Porco figure that I need to finish painting. I want this scene! Dukemaddog, Yeah the kit has got me thinking of doing something out of my normal wheelhouse. I have the 1/72 kit of Porco's S.21, so I was thinking of replicating the box art with a forced-perspective shadow box. Some of my model buddies excel in diorama construction, so I'd like to give it a try! |

Neal, I agree. That would rock doing a forced perspective shadow box like that. Something for me to consider as well.

I dug my S.21 out of the stash, and noticed it was the "late" version, the one with a new engine. I'll want to get an early version, just to be accurate, as the scene takes place at the beginning of the movie. On a positive note, the 1/72 plane is just right for the diorama idea!
