Next in the sequential T series postwar Soviet tank designs, the T-72. The T-72 was simplified compared to the T-64, intended for lower category Soviet tank units, using an older engine, a different version of the 125mm main gun with autoloader, and cleared for export, as well as production in Warsaw Pact states. This is the mid 80’s variant T-72M2 (later designated T-72B after the fall of the Iron Curtain and Soviet Union) featuring improved turret & glacis armor, more stowage bins, repositioned smoke grenade mortars, and anti radiation cladding for protection against the proposed neutron bomb. Dragon finally came along in 1990 and broke the dam of releasing then current Soviet AFVs. These kits were mostly based off of intel type photographs and didn’t quite get all the dimensions or details quite right, but made a huge step in filling the gap of Soviet late Cold War AFVs.
