This is an oldie but goodie. I built this kit when I was 18 or so. So let's try it again 40 years later As this is my first build after a couple moves (1 year later...) I'm going straight OOB Such an amazing fitting kit even by todays standards - Original tooling was 1973! Here's where I'm at Refreshing to build a low parts count great fitting model

That pit looks great for as old as this kit is and the same thing can be said for the FIT!!! WOW!!!

Another OOB box build that will show that you don't need a pile of aftermarket to look good and old does not always mean bad!

Outstanding selection John. Excellent work on the cockpit. No doubt as there is a lot to be said for the “vintage” Tamiya kits. They are a joy to build. My first kit to build when I returned to the hobby in 2009 was a Tamiya A6M2 Zero. It was the perfect kit for getting back into the swing of things. I always recommend them to first timers.
Looking forward to the finished product.

Very cool!
The British forum I'm also on currently has a carrier/carrier based aircraft GB going on, to be followed next month by a Japanese wingy thing GB starting in July, so I'm seem some interesting stuff like this one!
Keep up the great work.

It doesn't look like you've got THAT much work to do John. Hey......at least it's not a Revell/ Monogram offering.

Don't poke the Monogram Mafia boss! Ya for a kit tooled in 1973 (when I was 9) it's really amazing in terms of fit. Nice detail as well, though when you compare the pit and engine to their latest zero it looses pretty bad. But a super fun kit to reboot the model building.

Absolutely nothing wrong with straight OTB! Especially when it comes to a classic Tamiya bird.

I swear the Tamiya primer looks closer to what I've seen.... After doing some research I figured Tamiya XF-76 was the color... looks way too green so I'll have to do something like an IJN grey over it. Cowl is the right color from Mr Color. Grrr...
