Revell Germany 1/48 X-35A

I completed this build in 2020, using the Revell boxing of the Panda molds. The kit supposedly an F-35A, but has more features of the X-35 prototype, than a production F-35. I added a few modifications to the kit to improve its resemblance to the X-35A, such as sealing the weapons bays the X did not have, and adding the APU exhaust and under fuselage  speed brakes. I also revamped the IP and ejection seat in the cockpit to make them look something like the real thing instead of what the kit provided. The nose flight test instrument boom was pirated from an old Revell F-15A in my stash. I did use the kit decals, and this was my first time use of Vallejo Model Air paints, of which I was quite happy with the resulting paintwork.

Yeah, I would have had to do some surgery on the intakes and landing gear & wheel wells to make it the production variant, and the underside of the fuselage needs some major reshaping to be a proper prototype. So I did what could with what came in the box and no extensive surgery.

Nice work to come up with the faded paint on the warbird! I still use Vallejo and I still like it despite the fact that it can dry too quickly if I don't mix it correctly and clean the AB needle tip often.

Andy, I’ve only done a few builds with Vallejo Model Air, but I really do like the simplicity. No thinning or additives, just stir thoroughly, put it in your airbrush, and spray away! Just be sure to use a good primer first.
