This is the Meng 96K6 (NATO Designation SA-22) Pantsir from Meng. Very well engineered kit that I have been plugging away at for a bit over a year now. Still deciding on either the three color camo or solid Green as seen online lately. Major sub assemblies are complete and I am wargaming on how to paint this monster kit. Thanks for looking. This is one of the kits I've had my eye on, I am happy to see someone build it.
What is your overall impression of the kit? Any trouble spots? Ever want to throw it in the bin?

Well you could always make it burnt and blackened like much Russian equipment in Ukraine ends up 😉 But so far, the build looks great. Whatever scheme that you choose will look good I’m sure.

Never even heard of this kit before but looks like a must have! Mind you almost everything you guys post ends up as a "must have" for me so I need to reign in a bit. Really looking forward to where this goes.

Russian/Soviet ADA subjects are very cool. So much variety and history in them.

This is one of the kits I've had my eye on, I am happy to see someone build it. What is your overall impression of the kit? Any trouble spots? Ever want to throw it in the bin? Overall impression of the kit is the fitment is good, I had some issues with the I-beams on the chassis which of course added fit issues to the next steps, but that might have been user error and a slightly warped piece. the truck cab is ok, not super detailed and there is no interior for the operators. The other thing that I found is you have to watch the instructions carefully as there are two distinct versions which can be built and if you are not careful you can mix versions, so prior planning is a must. Fenders on the second axel are a bit weak and I've broken the left side one off several times now. It has been enjoyable when I have focused on it, but as it is a mix of automotive and ADA has been a challenge for me. (Haven't built a car since my teens).

LOL, that would be difficult to get right, so much twisted metal and black / rust. I do think that I am going to capture the look of many of them early in the conflict, with the leaking hubs on all the wheels from poor maintenance. I have also purchased the MIG Shaders and going to give that a try after watching the Mig Jimenez two part tutorial on how to paint a Russian typhoon vehicle. The shader line provides some cool effects to help modulate colors and shadows. Once I get to the painting I'll post more photos.

I have a PHD (projects half done) in modeling. LMAO!!! I think a lot of us do. PHD - that's great. I have been running more and more into that problem lately. I have advanced this build a bit, just not taken any pictures to prove it yet. It's mostly assembled now, with the initial stages of some weathering happening. Found some of the parts assembly to be a bit on the flimsy side so the missile racks are causing difficulties for positioning right now. Additionally, I seem to be missing a part to secure the spare tire with and that is annoying to say the least, but the way it sits behind the Cab it should be not too hard to fab something up and make sure its not visible. More to follow, <Matt

Untitled by matt pohlman, on Flickr Untitled by matt pohlman, on Flickr Untitled by matt pohlman, on Flickr Untitled by matt pohlman, on Flickr I used the Shaders by Ammo for the black shadowing effect you see on the paint. It is now gloss coated and is awaiting the beginning of the weathering process. I think it will have some of the tactical markings we all have seen on Twitter, just not sure which one yet. Thanks for looking <Matt

Wow that is an impressive looking vehicle and looks like you've made a ton of progress. I've always wanted to see some of these big military rigs built up. Looks like that one will require a bit of shelf space!

This is really some impressive work going on here Matt ( blkhwkmatt) and you're nailing the details and weathering very well. What's your process for painting the tires up? Great to see you back brother.

Great to see you back brother. Believe it or not the tires are vinyl and all I’ve done is paint the hubs to this point. Next steps will be washable paints for dust/dirt and some basic grime etc. still haven’t decided on which tactical marking to go with, should it be the infamous ’Z’ or another one from the early stages of the current war.
