Looking very sharp! I love it when the camo blends more after a coat of clear flat. And it will even look lovely afery a weathering job.

Thanks Andy
Have not touched this for awhile BUT
100 degree days are here in Montana so I'll be spending more time in the nice cool basement. I have figured out that the artillery piece in a bunker would make a very large base so that idea has gone away as large dioramas are something I just don't seem to have the juice to see through these days. So, I'm thinkin' about 12 inch circular base in the country with obligatory vegitation etc and perhaps I'll have another bright idea in the meantime

That and I don't have room for a larger diorama in my display area. lol Looking forward to seeing what you do with the base you've got in mind.

No sir I will not My genetics are North German and Eastern Russian. This means I'm neither designed or built for hundred plus degree weather I've lived in Texas pretty much my whole life excluding my time in the military and even then I was at Fort Hood for 5 years of that stint. With all that being said, I'm getting to where I really don't care for summer at all anymore and it's probably my age doing that. When I was younger I didn't seem to mind but as I've gotten older, it affects me alot differently.

On the 28th of March in 2020 me and a couple buddies left Montana to go to Waxahatchie, Texas to participate in a hog hunt on the first of April. There was still snow on the ground and it was about 25 degrees when we left. On the night of the hunt it was 75 degrees in Waxahatchie, the grass was waist high, and there was a Noah's flood rain coming down sideways in the thirty mile an hour wind. The mud was literally knee deep in places, and I was beginning to think the hogs would eat us after we drowned in the mud. Until then I'd always thought Texas was a big desert; the movies lied. Finally took the time to set down with this for awhile this afternoon. Decided on a base shape and roughed it out. I've been hearing about VMS Smart Mud for some time now and finally found some which should be on its way; I'll refine the base once the goo gets here. Very difficult to find it was I did not notice the spare track hanger racks had such short ears on them but they did, so I had to dig thru the garbage bucket and find the PE ones I'd tossed. Cutting the old ones off and installing the PE would have been easier before assembling and painting but it was not as hard as I thought it'd be I did get the bulk of the detail painting done, just need to pick out the periscopes I sure ain't been moving very fast on this lately but I'm getting the urge again so it's bound to pick up

Yeah, those track brackets look way better. Now I just feel jealous and lazy. Now it's lookin' reaal nice! And I'm not sure why I have Deliverance in my head when I say that... maybe it was the hog hunting story. LOL

And if you drilled those track links out you did an amazing job of getting all of those holes clean and centered. Any secrets to that, or just straight up talent?

Thanks gents
Long since eaten Andy it was good but not at all like the pork one picks up at the grocery store
Dave those are some of the T-Rex links. I was all set to use the kit supplied links, even had the drill out and then I said "Dumbass ya already got some with holes in them." Being the sharp charachter that I am I used them instead

That made a much better-looking set of track racks. It's a good thing you hadn't emptied the trash!
This is coming together nicely, well done!

Marvelous work so far Mark. Excellent save on the track racks. They look right. Quite curious to see how your base comes out as I am unfamiliar with VMS Smart Mud. Where exactly did you find it?

JR nor am I, but Kovac on YouTube uses it to spectacular results and I figured it's worth a try. Found it at Michigan Toy Soldier...I had to lurk on their website for two weeks before they had some in stock

Geez, that was about 20 years ago now...

These vehicles just look so dang bad a$$ when they're all built up. I'm definitely in agreement with the others about the track racks and the tedious positioning and pinning of them.
Yeah.....don't let nobody fool you about Texas weather buddy. It gets nasty here too. Wild hog meat is definitely different than that of a grocery store (and I say this for the benefit of others reading this because I'm sure you already know this) but the wild hogs have more muscle mass and tone than the couped up counterparts with alot of fat. Fat= good taste.

Thanks gents Well the Texas weather sure was nasty that night Got the goo the other day and had a afternoon free to twiddle about Finalized the base shape with a wire brush, a sureform plane, and 80 grit sandpaper. Diluted white glue and garden dirt spread on the places where the goo was gonna go to give the surface some tooth The goo applied with a few kitty litter rocks. I only did the roadway as the rest will be under grass, etc. Track marks. I may have spread it too thin The goo itself. I like this stuff alot, very easy to work with One of the figures in progress. I sure do miss Model Master enamels for this So now we'll see how long it takes the goo to dry. After it does it'll be time for texture and vegitation, and perhaps some other things I have swirling about in what I use for a mind

I have some of the VMS products and have been very happy with them, I've had my eye on that terrain material. In their youtube videos, it looks really easy to use.

Now I want to try that mud stuff one day. I used to have Vallejo but it had a very short shelf life so I had to discard it after one application. Your base is looking good by the way!

Thanks gents and yes I'll use the new goo henceforth as long as I can get my mitts on some it's great stuff A cooler day here so bouncing about in the hotbox on wheels was not as hard on me as usual. Therefore I had the juice to come a little farther with this project I acquired some 2" birch veneer and wrapped the base with it, trimmed it, then filled in the gap with some of the new goo. With this, I am shamelessly copying M. Kovac our Czech buddy on YouTube who has an unusual talent at this kind of stuff First and second layers of static grass applied Since my static grass applicator will not work with flock over 6mm I'll have to add taller tufts the old fashioned way

I've missed these last few updates Mark and am glad I took a peek in here. I really get a kick out of watching dio bases come together and this one is coming along pretty snazzy. Keep the updates comin' bud!

Thanks gents Slowly creeping along. This one may set a record for how long it's taking me to finish. More base work accomplished I fiddled with the static grass applicator and was able to get 7mm flock thru it, so I did some tufts Dark brown primer over the whole mess Dark yellow applied to grassy areas I mixed up a shade of lighter yellow green and did my best to apply it to the shorter stuff while leaving the longer stuff dark yellow All this was done with light coats of very thin paint. Now it's time to not look at it for awhile...if I like it in a day or so I'll proceed with finishing the bare earth areas and the rocks. I suppose I could do the figure faces, I always seem to find a reason to put that off as it ain't my favorite

Incredible work on the base. That looks awesome. And it’s going to look like the real deal when you photograph everything together. Can’t wait to see it.
