I hope he was not looking for those bikinis on the beach close by! Bein on a sub for as long as they did, I'm bettin he is, HA! Fantastic! You can practically feel the wind and sea spray! The sculpt of each wind whipped figure is really good. Almost missed this update but the 2nd lt is magnificent!! He tells a story all by himself. Tanks, Kyle!

1st Lieutenant is now on DeckThe third figure to this set is now on the shelf until the final punch list. I see more work needed on the back of the coat, but for the most part, the 1st Lt. is looking ok. Since winter prep is taking a lot of time right now, I grabbed an old CD case cover and placed that on top of the figure to keep the dust off, but also to slow down the drying process just a little. I have also placed the figures into the refer, it works the same. My oils go in the freezer after each session, so cold is good for oils. Well, I did snap a few in-progress pics, but not from the beginning, oops. At any rate, the process hasn’t changed. Things are looking very glary right now making it sometimes hard to catch all the weak spots. The final pics for now with Dull Coat and the hair dryer to finish him off until later. I added the bino strap and eliminated the flaps that would normally have been flopping around his neck. I really didn’t see them as necessary and who would miss them anyway? Ok, off to work Lt. Werner. Thanks for watching and more to follow soon. Cheers, Ski.

All these little techniques that you're listing off are some I've never heard of like keeping the oils in the freezer. The shadowing and highlighting on your figures are really top notch Steve and this latest one is really looking the part.

Steve....that is simply outstanding. When I first got back into the hobby I really didn't 'get' figure painting. They did nothing for me at all. I could appreciate the work someone put in but they didn't 'move' me. BUT, over the years I started to appreciate them far more thanks to the work of a handful of figure painters. I may be wrong but I think you were the person who started me on the journey to truly appreciate figures.... and even if you weren't the first, you were very early on in that path! So thank you and keep up the great work! Andrew Now that's what it's all about, excellent Andrew! Now, if I had anything to do with getting you along with figure painting, I'm honored. We all get inspiration from others and I'm always incredibly impressed with some of these guys who can "make figures walk". And for me, it's addictive, so maybe for you too, and that's the fun part. Thanks, Andrew! Sorry Steve Completely forgot to reply to this.....in short you are more than welcome.....credit where credit is due as they say! Andrew

Thank you, All, Gentlemen!
Ya, Joe, these little tricks of the trade come in handy, but not too many mentioned from the figure guys. I recon they assume we already know them? Mostly you learn through the school of hard knocks, then ya never forget, HA!
Been splitting and stacking firewood, still a lot more to go, but I did get a shadow coat on Werner. I should have put him in the fridge, but the CD cover will have to do for now. Winter prep may be a bugger, but once the snow flies it's all bunker time, minus plowing snow, Yehaaaaaaaaaaa!

Lt. Werner Joins the CrewFour down, one to go, as Lt. Werner is now ready for deck duty. This is the last figure wearing the heavy rain coat and hat. The fifth figure, Chief Engineer Fritz, has a life jacket and other clothing, plus goggles. As mentioned earlier while doing the last three figures, nothing has changed in the approach to painting this uniform. Once you’re in the groove, keep it rolling as best as you can. I’m not exactly happy with how deep the eye sockets are and I should have addressed that issue long ago. There was room for improvement, I just didn’t do it. I am taking that under advisement, lol. A closer look at all the figures together shows a definite blue tone to this particular rain jacket and hat. It was something I tried to address and tone down, so it’s no longer overly pronounced now. He should be good to go. There will usually be a slight variation due to wear and tear and how new a uniform may be compared to any other crew member. Lt. Werner was a guest on board, so his gear was more than likely new, especially being a correspondent for the Reich. I like the tones, personally, so it will remain. Working in this scale is a lot of fun when painting coats and trousers, especially if there is great definition. The tones just pop when the oils are blended from shadow to highlight, and IMHO, this set is no exception. Also, the signal lamp has been painted and weathered, but I have not taken photos of it yet. There’s a few details that need to be addressed, but the lamp will appear in the final photos. Lt. Werner has been set aside while I start on Chief Engineer Fritz. Thanks for watching and holler if you see anything that needs to be addressed. Cheers, Ski.

There was more than the usual amount of pre-work to be done that some of it got under the radar, but in the end it'll be fine, I recon. Thanks, Buddy. Simply stunning Steve, your perception of light is something else !! Thanks, Paddy. As you know these dark colors and oils can mess with your head. I appreciate the kind words. The subtle shading you achieved on the raincoat is amazing! Tanks, Brother! Stunning work on the raincoat!!! I think the eyes look good to me. How did you highlight the raincoat? With paint brush or airbrushing because of its size? Your work always amaze me... Thank you, Andy. Oh no, no air brush, it'd be a bloomin mess if I tried that, lol. I wish I could run an air brush worth a hoot, lol

Man Steve......this is off the dang CHARTS cool man. All the tonal variations and shadowing really take center stage in these figures of yours. I would need an 8-hour a day one-on-one tutoring session for about a MONTH to feel even halfway confident in taking stuff like this on.

Everyone who has ever been to the sea can feel the wind and the spray in the face when looking at these figures. The poses are incredible, Jeff has the knack for capturing such scenes. Good news, his latest releases are looking really good and I am happy to report he is cleaning up not only his sculpts, but the molding and pouring process. His figure options are off the charts and seeing these improvements will increase customer confidence. I would need an 8-hour a day one-on-one tutoring session for about a MONTH to feel even halfway confident in taking stuff like this on. Na, it won't take you that long, ya just gotta go for it, Brotha!
