Hello everybody!
Having landed myself a nice little evilbay bargain in the shape of Tamiya's Stug III Ausf. B, I thought I might blow the savings on some Spade Ace metal tracks. I've seen a nice Russian captured Ausf. D, so that'll be what I'm aiming for. But, what tracks do I need? I'm guessing Mid Production 40cm - but am I guessing right? Over to you. Cheers, Dierk

hm, not too sure about the Stugs and III's. Might be the early 36cm tracks. If they are the 40cm tracks, then yeah the early ones , no cleats, smooth faced. They used the same tracks as the PZ IV. The IV's switched to the 40cm with the late D and F versions....if I'm not mistaken. I am sure Bill will know better.

I built Tamiya StuG III B two years and I loved it! It was perfect as my second build after 25 years break... nothing special but learning experience. I used 40cm set from Modelkasten and it was a perfect fit. It was my first attempt using tracks from Modelkasten. They looked great but they are very fragile. You can see them next to the kit supplied rubber band... There's another thing... Tamiya instructions didn't say anything about spare wheels on the rear but the parts are included in the kit in case you are interested to use them. Hope this helps...

Thanks Andy! I find Modellkasten really difficult - and expensive - to source, so I'll be giving the Spade Ace metal tracks a whirl. At least now I know which version to go for.
Cheers, Dierk

Thanks Darío - very useful! However, now I have to make the decision whether to build it as an Ausf. B and use artistic license on the markings, or stay true to the one I'll be basing it on and turn it into an Ausf. D Decisions, decisions... dierk
