Thanks John. After lots of masking I put down a good coat of a light flat yellow as a primer, and to seal the masking to avoid seepage or leakage… then the gloss Blue Angels Yellow, also not overly thinned. As you can see, it turned out as envisioned. 
Now I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the decals to perform well… 🤞🏼

Thanks. It has some flecks of dust in there that somehow managed to find my build while it was drying, but overall it’s quite smooth.

I started the decal application today with the undersides… those underwing US Navy decals have to be the largest single piece decals that I’ve ever applied. I think that this set was scaled for another kit, as the gear door stripes were off size wise just a fraction in length here and there…



I’ll finish the topside markings tomorrow….

That it is! More yellow on blue. Thankfully the decals are NOT translucent allowing the darker color to bleed thru.

Man.....funny how a few decals can make ALL the difference. This is looking SHARP Carlos. I get nervous when applying large decals like that.......really nervous.

Joe, I was plenty nervous on some of these decals. Particularly those large US Navy’s and the long strip behind the nose gear well.

Thanks Joe. I’m figuring on finishing decals tomorrow, along with touch up and final detail items painting. Then hopefully final assembly the day after that, and any last minute corrections of whatever is left to be dealt with the day after that….

That would be my guess as well. Ah well. After all, Monogram and Revell kits are “unbuildable junk dogs” as is so obvious here… 😏 Why scale the decals for the more numerous and affordable kit?

This will just need some yellow touch ups here and there in very small places…

TJ, I am just concerned on what to use to get the decals sealed with a gloss clear that makes them look that shiny.

oh yeah, upon emptying the box today, I found the original purchase receipt buried under everything. I bought it from a great shop, long gone now… it sat in my stash for nearly 23 years…

Brian, the decals weren’t too difficult, aside from the largest ones and the smallest ones. I did utter a few curses here and there during that process. But in the end they turned out ok.

Thanks Joe. I did my best to recreate the look of the Blues. I’ve seen them many times over the years and the pristine appearance of the aircraft always stood out to me as a vivid memory.

I still can’t believe that this is a Revell kit Carlos. The finished product came out just great man. All the prep work involved from the very beginning and through the paint and decaling processes all make this one into a real looker.

And all this for just a tad over 8 bucks. Those were the days…..

Joe, this was a pre merger Monogram kit. I still hold them in high regard. Part of it may be nostalgia, but seriously, at that time, they were top of the pyramid, and still hold up well today. As can be seen here.
