Looks fantastic. I almost never do ships but something about the Flower class corvettes interests me. Great job.

Looks fantastic. I almost never do ships but something about the Flower class corvettes interests me. Great job. This is the kit for anybody that has even the remotest interest in building a ship. The scale is manageable, instructions are clear, fit is near perfect and out of the box builds up very nicely. For those so inclined you can go crazy with the aftermarket. I can not recommend this kit enough.

So many great details! Now I am tempted to buy that kit as my local shop usually have those in stock.

So many great details! Now I am tempted to buy that kit as my local shop usually have those in stock. I will get some better detail pictures as soon as I get some batteries for my camera. Yep. I think they made a couple of million of these things as I see it everywhere. Very good value for the price.

Dang Tony! That is some fantastic detail OOB. Every where you look there's detail to look at. That turned out to one heckuva build and I like the idea of the black background to make the ship stand out and not "blend in" so to speak.

Dang Tony! That is some fantastic detail OOB. Every where you look there's detail to look at. That turned out to one heckuva build and I like the idea of the black background to make the ship stand out and not "blend in" so to speak. It is one of my display shelves. When I assembled the unit I deliberately put the back panels on backwards so that the finish is matt black instead of glossy "wood grain". You can't even notice from 3 feet away but it makes a good backdrop for light coloured models. My normal camera was dead when I went to take these so they are just cell phone pics and didn't come out as well as I hoped. Still need to do something nicer with the stand so can get some better detail shots then. The detail OOB is one of the better ship models and although some things such as the depth charge racks and bridge splinter shields are solid or a bit thick some creative shadow work hides it. There are loads of after market sets for this kit but at $150 to $200 they cost more than double the price of the base model. Mind you they also replace about 80% of the plastic parts so for those wishing to up the ante they are a good value. As always I prefer trying to make what comes in the box look good using smoke and mirrors over having the extra fine details.

All of the effects that you used seemed to work very well on this build Tony. Can't wait to see what it all looks like with a better camera.

Many modelers rust the living crap outta them. Yes they took a beating and would get grungy, dented, and have some visible rust on the hull after a North Atlantic run but they would NEVER have rust on the upper works and any hull damage would be painted over immediately when they hit port. There would not have been any self respecting Captain in the RCN that would leave them as bad as they get modeled for very long. This is one is about as bad as you can find in pictures. Even battered there were so many coats of paint that rust just isn't seen. So I kept the actual weathering to what the majority of the phots show which is just some grunge and staining. The rest of my washes are to fake shadows to give depth and let details pop.

Ahhhhh... somebody who knows about keeping a ship looking ship shape. The time honored tradition of keeping sailors busy... paint it!!! Yep. I was a Sea Cadet for 5 years so know my way around a paint brush, a bosuns chair or a mop full of linseed oil. Later I was a Naval Reserve Damage Control Officer so learned how fast rust can take over and do real damage and why all that painting was actually needed. The busy work to keep people out of trouble was just a side benefit.
