Ok, a small update here. I have completed the front and rear grills and fascia respectively. With regards to the front grill, if you would note that the surrounding bezels of the headlights are semi gloss black with the trim immediately surrounding the headlights themselves are picked out in chrome. This was a topic brought up in the modelcarsmag forum when it was noticed on some recent builds that the builders were painting the bezels chrome. This is in error and results in the headlights looking too large. The Chrome trim was hand painted with MOLOTOW ink and I highlighted the grill with a gray colored pencil. A note on the rear fascia and taillights: These are really well rendered if you look at some 1:1 pics. The bezels are black with chrome trim. These were also picked out with MOLOTOW ink. One has to be careful but when neatly done, it really pops. Finally, I included a picture of my intentions with the wheels. These are the standard Ford hub caps with trim rings in resin I had obtained from Fireball Modelworks. I also found some old "Firestone Wide Oval" dry transfers by SHABO. I will say that Model Cars Magazine is to auto builds what some armor groups I've seen are to armor.....which is a good thing because I've been steered straight a number of times by folks offering kind suggestions and help over there. VERY impressive work on the grille and taillight panel Gil and those wheels look the "bee's knees". I've been dealing with Joseph at Fireball now for a while and absolutely LOVE his merchandise. Stuff works like a charm.... every time.

Great job on the front grill and rear panel, Gil. The tires are going to look awesome when you get them finished.

I saw this update this morning and couldn't believe my eyes. Those wheel/ tire assys alone look amazing! I like the idea of painting the lower stripe as well. I should've done that on my Camaro center stripes as they just don't look right being decals with the gloss applied over them. Your progress here is nothing short of amazing Gil.

OMG… BEST build thread yet IMHO, cause you go into great detail on the actual building process… not just progress pics. This is invaluable stuff for someone like me…let me explain to those reading this post: I haven’t build a civilian vehicle since I was maybe 12! and at that, they were simple kits and no paint…just the color they came in, which was usually the color of the box art, and decals. As a military modeler, I certainly know how to paint in that arena, but this is something totally different because of the sheen most car builds require. I also never, ever use lacquers… you might as well be speaking Greek to me so, seeing why and how you apply it is Golden Nuggets of info (such as the psi noted as it was, as well as paint brand). I also get a lot of great reminders of techniques used, such as displayed in this thread.
I don’t mean to sound critical of others, and apologizes if it comes across that way… but (and you knew by now there was gonna be a ‘but’), thats why I hate magazines like FSM… lovely pictures but no clue on how they actually achieve it, and with what.
….sorry, I’ll get off my soapbox and apologies again if I hijacked the thread a little.
I love this kit, and thank you for the write ups!

The RAG pics are cool but, like you stated, most don't share build info. As far as the SOAP BOX...stay on that puppy, as you make a great point.

I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to be that accurate with a Molotow Chrome Pen. Great idea applying grey pencil over the grill.

Thanks all, and I agree wholeheartedly! A WIP doesn't achieve its goal if the process isn't provided. I like it if I can help others any way I can because I also learn from others.
Sting, the molotow pen wasn't used for the trim. I have a ink refill that I use like paint and brush it on. More precise. One question for others who uses the Molotow pens: I have had a set for a while and noticed that even after shaking them up the "chrome" effect has dissipated to a grayish tone. I am not sure if this is due to settling or clumping of the pigment, but I have turned around the tips to little effect. Just wondering if others have experienced this and what if anything can be done to correct this?

I will say that it tends to last longer in the refill bottles though.

I have experienced the same thing. It seems to have a shelf life of about 6 months or so. I have all three sizes of the pens and the refill bottle, and they all do the same thing.

Awesome paintjob on the body and the front and back grills are gorgeous.
The chrome foil accents are nicely done and the tire assemblies look great, too.

Thanks for the info on the pens. That sucks bc I may have to purchase more but at least know I wasn't imagining it.
Also, I have been working diligently on the chassis and engine and will have an update soon. As usual I will be wiring up the powerplant.

This is looking perfect. I can never get over the level of detail that you put into your builds Gil. Your most certainly right about that being one of the best OOB carburetors that I've seen too. Alot of times I turn to Fireball Modelworks for carburetors because his carbs are "all that AND a whole bag of party mix" but this one has all the details there. Isn't it funny how most manufacturers put a lot of effort into making sure the engine part of the kit looks pretty decent only to top it off with a blob for a carburetor? That suspension looks pretty well detailed out from the box on this kit as well. Coming along beautifully Gil.

What? No vacuum hose on the vacuum advance for the distributor? Just kidding! Nice detail on all of it! Loving the fuel line, PCV hoses, and the heat tube for the air cleaner inlet. My Boss 351 is my first car in a while, so I think I'm gonna stop at the plug wires...maybe add more detail to the next car I build to expand the skill set.

I mentioned this one on another forum but you just can't get much better than that in terms of realism Gil. Great attention to detail and the finishes look very convincing.
