Hello,
WOW! Time flies! I finished this 1/25 model back in 2007. One of my all time favorites. This is a replica of the #4 C6R car, Chassis # C6R-004, as I saw it racing in the 2006 Petit LeMans race in Atlanta. Somewhere along the way, what started as a simple build of the rather simple Revell kit became one of the most elaborate projects I've ever done!
The best memory from this model car was when I went back to the race the next year. I went on my own but I was then an employee of one of the sponsors (Motorola). As such they allowed me into the team's hospitality they had for guests and sponsors (read free snacks ). The team quickly noticed (and really liked) that I was true and real Corvette and Corvette Racing nut-head enthusiast, more than just a sponsor's employee. Most of the guests there had no clue (again, they were probably only after the free food and beverages). I ended up explaining them a lot about racing, strategy, Corvette's history, etc. The team noticed my enthusiasm and I have to say I was treated like Royalty! I casually mentioned the model I built to one of the crew members and he asked for details. When I showed him pictures of this model he was blown away and long story short, I ended up in the garage with the actual race mechanics working on the actual car showing them the pictures and discussing the model. They allowed me to photograph the heck out of the disassembled car, explained in detail every question I had and I ended up having lunch with them in the garage, accompany the team taking the car to tech inspection and be on a real race pit stop among many other things. They even gave me a team's golf cart to move around "As long as you don't get it into the racetrack". Over 16 years later and I still can't wipe out that stupid smile off my face.
This is Frank Parker, communications director, showing the mechanics the same pictures you are about to see.
Anyways, here is my model:
I also built the road version of the car, the mighty 2006 Corvette Z06. I'll eventually post that separately.
Both airbrushed with Cobra Colors Corvette Velocity Yellow code 45 lacquer under PPG DCA468 Hi Performance Clear lacquer.
Here is a link to the build thread on the process: www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/5406-revell-c6-r-corvette-7-4-07-update/
But wait, there is more!
This model was featured in the cover of Model Cars Magazine back in 2009 with a 5 page article on the build! A very proud and humbling moment.
Hope you like it!
Thanks,
Ismael "the Corvette guy"
