I fabricated this car in 2005, using the Revel Turbo Mustang body. I also used (and modified) the off set chassis from a Camaro ASA kit. Vacuum formed the hood from a buck that I made from Balsa wood. Roll cage and interior sheet metal are fabbed from plastic sheet and rod. The Dash is fabbed from plastic sheet. The Gauges and dash lights are aluminum tubing cut and shinned up. It's all plumbed and wired. The wide 5 racing wheels and tires are made here in my shop. The decals are done here on the ALPS 5000. The paint is dupli-color. All the push bars are Aluminium welding rod bent to shape.
I did take it to a few shows on the West Coast and it did pretty well. We took it to the 2013 IPMS Nationals in Colorado and it took First place in its category. That was pretty cool. Here are a few pics of the build.
Thanks for looking in and commenting...
The body came from this kit..... I cut a pie shape out of the roof...
Body work..
the Chassis and interior..... Finished car....

Thank you Leon, for the compliment. It was about a 6 month build and I sure enjoyed it. Now...there's a kit that's made of the Whelen Modified and it's a really cool kit.
Hey John...yea...I told a few friends of mine that a good Asphalt Modified kit was finally produced again. I also have at least 3 of each one of those kits. So far...there have been six different cars put out. Salvino had a little hand in it, but it was mostly Wes, from wes's model car corner that went to the shops and got all the correct measurements from the 1/1 car.

Hi Gary, That's very cool! I don't remember seeing it before. I also dig the helmet! Where is that from?
Thanks, Ismael

Hey Ismael...yea...I built this in 05 and thanks for the compliment. The helmet I sourced from and Indy car kit. I drilled the guys face out and painted it. Made the Visor and set it on the car. Unfortunately...some else wanted it more for themselves at a model show in Portland, OR.

Heck ya, Ismael. It's not difficult at all. Plus it adds (that something different)to the Race car.

Thanks for the KIND words Joe. It was a fun, cool (meaning that there was nothing like it at the time) build for sure.
The Asphalt I.S.M.A. Super modifieds and SK, Smart,Whelen modifeds are my favorite Asphalt cars. USAC Sprints (both dirt and asphalt) along with the Midgets are just fantastic also. I'm starting to like the Dirt Late models here lately. ALL good racing....

Gary, that's a very stunning build! Are those wheels made of real rubber because they look way too good and real!

Hey Andy...thank you for the GREAT compliment. The tires are made from black Resin. I made a master mold for the tires using tires from a nascar kit. Then...I poured the mold in resin. I did at least 4 pours. Then..I measured how wide I wanted the racing tire, cut both tires to my measurements and then super glued the wider tire back together. Sanded it smooth and then made a mold of that tire. Then I poured the 2 part black urethane resin for the tire. let it cure for an hour in the pressure pot, under 40psi. Remove the mold and sand the tire tread, and it's a done deal. Repeat 3 more times. I hope that is clear as mud to you, Andy. LOL
