This is the next build. I bought this at a model contest this year thinking that I would like to build a T-bucket. I may have picked the wrong one to build. This is a kit that was manufactured in 1999 and it is showing. The chrome tree is starting to peel. I have already stripped chrome from 7 pieces and it may become more. The very short frame had 4 sink marks on the left side and three on the right. I forgot to take a picture before I puttied it up but you can see that almost the entire length of the frame is puttied. Lots of flash as well. I don't know if I'll find anything else but I am wary. Thanks for looking! 😎

Hey Jr, I've got that same kit. Haven't looked in the box in a few yrs. The box art is inviting for sure. Lots of work on this one but, I'm in it with ya. You'll make it right...that I have no doubts.

The kit flaws from 1999 are even a bit surprising to me because scale models seemed to start getting a little bit more serious in terms of detail, accuracy and quality right about that time IMO. Great subject and that car looks killer on the box top. Looking forward to seeing you work some magic with this one JR.

Although it sounds like you've got some extra work cut out for you, I am confident you will build up a gem out of this. Neat subject and a fine start.

Cool project. Looking at Scalemates the original dates back to 1962 so those molds must be pretty tired. Heck 37 years old in 99!

Thanks, All! Yes, the 1999 date must have been the date of this re-pop. The right door opens on this one but it doesn't really hinge. It can be posed either open or closed. I could make a hinge but I'm just gonna leave it this way. The frame is quite a challenge and I guess I got too much paint on it. But not to worry, I have already sanded it off, re-primered and painted so it looks much better. I mocked it up a little to see how it will come together. I don't have metallic purple so I used Tamiya purple. Yes, my camera makes it look blue. Guess I'll try to find another camera setting. The white is Tamiya white primer and the red block is Dupli-Color Bright Red. Thanks for looking! 😎

Thanks, All! I appreciate your comments! Finished the chassis, wheels and tires and the engine is in. Now I just have to finish the interior bucket and this one will be on the way to being done. The chassis was very fiddly but I managed to get it together despite the poor instructions. I don't know how anyone could stay on the bench seat in this one without sliding off! And yes, the paint is purple and maybe I can get some outdoor photos when I'm done. Thanks for looking! 😎

I meant to comment on this yesterday and thought I did for a second BUT.......I guess I didn't. This is coming along VERY well JR. You're right about sliding off of that seat with the angle that it's at but it is indeed a snazzy looking ride. You're bringing her home nicely. I can't help but have these visions of grandeur to build one of these up with the TruWires wheels and a deep dish set of Cragars in the back. If you haven't seen these TruWires yet then you're in for a big surprise.

Thanks, Gary, Handlabeled and Joe! I appreciate your comments! Joe, I seen some really nice wire wheels but they are probably out of my price range! I found a radiator with an electric fan incorporated on it. I shortened it a bit and will paint it so that I don't need to find a fan. the interior is done but not without some difficulty. First, I had sprayed the old decals with a coat of clear lacquer hoping that it would help them not breaking apart. I cut the six white gauge decals and applied them and put a brush of Micro Sol on each one. I then left and let them dry for about an hour. When I returned all looked good except the Speedo which is the large left gauge. It hadle up in kind of an arc. So i gently touched it with a wet brush and it disintegrated into a million little pieces! So after removing it I then found an old Fred Cady decal that I had used for Indy race cars, a two piece decal, white back and black front that sort of looked like a speedo and used it. look too bad but this buggy is moving at about 70 mph! I bent a straight pin for the shifter because the kit piece was unusable and found a banjo steering wheel in the parts box. I cut the clear acetate in the kit after cleaning it as well as possible, but I had to do the cutting using the windshield frame because the pattern in the instructions was too small for the frame. Mirror foil on the mirror and it is done! I also had to touch up the windshield frame with a Molotow pen to repair the chrome finish that was chipped off. Thanks for looking! 😎

You did a great job with this kit amongst all the challenges that you had along the way JR. I hear you on certain decals man and I hate to hear your luck with the speedometer cal. Sounds like you found a suitable replacement because just sitting there this car looks like it's going 70mph. lol
I also hear you on the pricing of the wheels. Those things cost as much as some kits do. lol
