All, I wanted to share this with the group as a few individuals have asked about my bases. All of my models, whether aircraft or armor, are attached to bases. Glued down with Super Glue to be specific. This serves several purposes. 1. I don’t have to handle the models once completed. 2. A much safer way to transport them. 3. During a contest, if for some reason, the model needs to be moved, the individual can simply pick up the base. 4. During judging, the entire base can be rotated to get a view of all sides of the model. The are a few other points that I could make, but you get the picture. The pros outweigh the cons. I’m a carpenter by trade. I’ve been blessed to have the tools to do these myself at my home. I’m able to build whatever size I need. The simplest one are 3/4” plywood, with sandpaper glued on top to simulate asphalt, or a carrier deck surface. To finish the edge of the plywood, I nail oak trim that is stained and coated with polyurethane. All of these materials can be purchased at any home improvement store. They also sell much smaller pieces of the plywood( 2’x4’ ). It’s a pretty simple way to add a more interesting scene to your model. Feel free to ask any questions.

Your bases add so much to the overall finish with the aircraft, which are incredible as well. Thank you for sharing these beauties.

Bradley - Those are some beautiful bases and builds. Interesting technique on the bases, thank you for sharing.

This is AWESOME! This is definitely I can try for my future wingy builds. What do you use to hide the seams where two pieces of sandpaper meet? And what did you use to create those dots/bumps on the runway?

Thanks for sharing this detailed process with us Chris. I'm going to have to refer back to this thread when I build a more modern aircraft. Awesome stuff and +1 Karma to you bud.

Great job on the ground points, birds look awesome, too! Making saw dust is just about as much fun as "sniffin paint and gluin them fingers together", IMHO!

That's great information. I'll definitely have to refer back to this when I build one.
