Looks good paddy! MRP looks to have gotten the color right. The Blue Gray over Light Gray scheme stayed on the production line at least into mid 1943 when the "tri color" schemes were introduced. Early Hellcats and Corsairs were built in the Blue Gray/Gray.

I haver given this a light wash to bring up the panel lines. This is something i9 dont usually do but the surface detail in the Eduard kit is exceptional and fine so looks ok in this small scale. Still a way to go. The Eduard Decals have this removable carrier film which is new to me so it will be interesting to see how they go....

Absolutely stunning results Paddy. Glad you opted for the wash as it does the surface detail justice.

Looking very sharp! You don't do your wash over the decals, or do you add more once the decals are on?

Looking very sharp! You don't do your wash over the decals, or do you add more once the decals are on? To be honest i dont really know what i am doing The problem for me was that the Eduard decals have a removable carrier film. You remove it by applying white spirit to the decal after 24hrs which should lift the carrier film. I have not done this before but the wash is white spirit based so would lift the carrier film and remove the wash its self if i did the wash after the decals The answer in future is to use a non white spirit based wash i would think but i didnt really think it through before hand..... Hope that sort of explains it my excuse anyway..

I was wondering how those removable carrier film decals work. Now it makes sense. And the wash over the decals goes away with the film. So it’s either delay the wash until carrier film removal, or reapply the wash over the decals… 😉

Hmm You cant teach an old dog new tricks I found the carrier film wouldn't lift without lifting the whole decal. I shouldn't have put the decal over the wash with this process. What i should have done was to put the decal straight on to the paint then lifted the carrier film and then washed. So made a bit of a mess with this and and damaged a decal but we will call it "battle damage " At least others will know to be aware or use std decals which i suppose is the whole point of these blogs.

I know a lot of people don't mind Eduard's new decals but I don't think I would use them.

Hmm You cant teach an old dog new tricks I found the carrier film wouldn't lift without lifting the whole decal. That was something that I've seen other folks online have the same problem. Yikes!!! I'm sure that you'll find a recovery work around, but it is still aggravating. Sounds like they ignored the Keep it Simple Stupid rule from these decals.

It will likely be typical Miniart injected styrene with lots of teeny tiny photo etch...
