Now it looks very lively with its decals on! I am glad you both washed the food containers first before using it for decals.

You should run out and buy a lottery ticket after getting those decals to lay down and look as good as they do. It looks terrific!

I just dropped in to read the build thread, and I like that you put Shirley inside the car. I remember reading an interview with her where she likened the racing experience to being in a sauna, with some guy sitting on her shoulders while continuously beating her helmet with a ball peen hammer! What a tough lady, and a true pioneer for women in racing.

Hey RealG glad you stopped by! Wish i had met her but when i was going to the track she had retired already. A pretty cool life! I’m mocking up the dio now. I decided on her last race, the 39th AutoClub Nationals in Pamona CA. For the center sponsor card i found the logos online and then arranged and printed them on glossy photo paper. Working on a big Lucas Oil sign that goes in front of the tree but it’s been hard to find a clean shot of it. Think i have something to try tomorrow. Next up was the starting line paint and logo for the center lane area. I made a mask up for the lettering and then sprayed the white on followed by some Blue Angels blue over the masking 😁 looks close to camping world color 🤣 Traveling thru Saturday now so nothing new will be up till Sunday. Hoping to finish up then. This’ll give me some time to find a good picture with people in the stands for the back of the clear case that goes over this.

WOW! I like the whole staging scene on this one Chris and the car looks GREAT!!! I did notice that you toned the chrome effect down on the wheels a bit. Did you go with the Tamiya Smoke for that or something else? Whatever you used, it worked.

Did you go with the Tamiya Smoke for that or something else? Whatever you used, it worked. On this one it ended up being my choice of primer possibly. I sprayed the chrome metal over satin primer. Forgot to gloss coat in black before doing the metal color and it came out a bit dulled. The fronts are ok but I’m still debating the rears because they look very dull. I tried a 2nd coat on the rear. 1st time with this and I kinda figured it wouldn’t matter but it was easy to at least give it a spray and see if it picked up the shine. Nope 👎 since then ive also been debating the age of my bottle of chrome. I’ve read over in the help section that the Alclad metal colors can age. Might get out my Molotov pen and try it since i have tires mounted on rims now. ok that ended up being a paragraph 🤣 good question Joe, got right to all the debates I’m having on this one 👍

A truly spectacular turn out of an icon of a car and driver Chris. I’ve not ever completed a rail car like this before but I’m sure this one has its challenges along the way, all of which you overcame to create this end result with. Thank you for being a part of the Red Hot & Rollin’ GB potna. I’ll get this into the gallery thread today.
PS. The reason behind the build is just as great as the build. Glad that your mom and sister are now cancer free.

A wonderful build with a great backstory. Really nicely done. And it looks awesome in the base.

Excellent build! The entire base and car is spot on! Don't worry about the rear wheels, the slight dull dark look is dead on after a few tire warm ups and runs. Great reason for the build also.

Many thanks guys! It sure was a fun build. I have another dragster in the stash but I don’t know if I’m looking forward to building it or not… I do have a lot more experience so I think it will go easier. I’ll get to show this to my sisters over the holidays. The starting line was a perfect way to utilize that twist in the old plastic parts to my advantage, and not have to worry about straightening anything 🤣🍻
