Thanks for sharing that Tony. I've often wondered what that beast would look like after all of these years. The article made mention of no aircraft found on board or nearby and if I'm not mistaken, the reason was that she had launched most all of her aircraft.....right?

Maybe a new project for Modelcrazy 😁 Sounds like a good challenge. Heck...he's already done the Musashi.

Thanks for sharing that Tony. I've often wondered what that beast would look like after all of these years. The article made mention of no aircraft found on board or nearby and if I'm not mistaken, the reason was that she had launched most all of her aircraft.....right? No, aside from some fighters in the air on defensive Combat Air Patrols, all of her bombers except one were onboard in the hangars being fueled and armed for a strike on the US fleet when she was hit. jackwagon Best spoke of seeing one last Zero take off as he made his dive before dropping his bomb. Battle accounts mention a Zero parked below the bridge catching fire, and this being the reason for the command staff finally leaving the bridge. I imagine that they all burned up or were blown apart in the hanger decks during the ensuing fires and explosions as their fuel tanks ruptured and ordnance cooked off. If you've ever seen photos of USS Franklin or USS Bunker Hill after they were hit in 1945, they had the burned remnants of their air wings on deck and in the hangar. They endured similar ordeals as Akagi, but did not sink.
