I will be building two Camaros. The first one will be a 69 “RS” coupe made from the Z28 kit. The other will be a “SS 396 convertible made from the convertible kit with a few parts from the latest Camaro offering from Revell. " alt=" "]

I am NOT a first gen. Camaro expert, so forgive me if I state something here that is incorrect. I’m using an original first issue Revell 1969 Camaro Z/28 as the basis for the RS couple because 1) this is the only version of this kit that has the RS emblem molded in the grille (which is incorrect for a Z28 with the RS package) and 2) it has tire marks on the hood (easy enough to fix, but I plan on using a flat hood from the AMT 68 Camaro) also the decals are missing, but I can get the fender stripes I need from the convertible kit. I opened up both the RS grille for the base trim level couple, as well as a standard grille for my SS convertible. URL=https://imageshack.com/i/pm0EqUKej]

Thanks for the interest guys! The hood on the AMT kit is a little bit larger than the Revell hood and the rear has a different radius where it meets the cowl.. A little trimming and some work with some sand paper got’er fitting nice!

Hi all! Here’s an update of the two Camaros: First, Joe came through with an awesome set of photo etched detail parts for the builds! Thanks a bunch Joe! 👏 URL=https://imageshack.com/i/pnt898kcj] Next, both chassis are done and have their completed engines installed. The coupe has a small block engine. The kit supplied the block and cylinder heads along with the transmission while the intake and exhaust manifolds were sourced from my parts box. In contrast, the convertible sports the 396 big block and transmission that came with the convertible kit. Both kits came with dual exhaust, but I chose to modify the coupes exhaust to reflect a Y pipe. URL=https://imageshack.com/i/pm5PAx4oj] [/URL

98kc.jpg[/IMG] Notice the black air cleaner painted intake manifold and valve covers on the small block engine on the left. These parts replaced the Z/28 finned aluminum valve covers and dual four barrel setup that came in the kit to replicate the low performance 307 V8 offered on the base model sport coupe. The big block engine on the right is the kit supplied kit part that came in the convertible. It has the correct chrome valve covers, aluminum intake and open element air cleaner that came on 396 equipped Camro SS cars.

Looking great so far, super job fitting the hood Yeah the hood fitment on these kits is a little tricky but looks like Alan's got things under control there.

I’m not sure why my pictures are all different sizes so I’m going to post the same picture using all the available links as a test. Alt

I’m not sure why either, because I’m not too smart on how these things work. However I have just been clicking on the small photos. It opens the image in image shack at full size so then I can look at it.

I may not have all the features since I’m using my phone instead of a desktop computer. I had that issue with photobucket years ago. Anyhow, I’ll keep trying to figure it out as I finish these up.

You might want to make sure that the picture size is 640 x 480 for how it is uploaded to your web picture host. HTH

Here are the final pictures from these two builds. I built the coupe as a RS with only a few options: The RS package came with the hidden headlight grille, some extra chrome trim and a special set of taillights that moved the back up lights below the rear bumper. To this the optional V8 engine was added (307 2bbl.) Lastly a set of Rally wheels round out the options list. By contrast, the convertible came with a slew of options! First was the SS package this gave the car a 350 small block engine, but not satisfied with that, the 396 big block engine was checked off on the order form. Also power widows, deluxe interior, enduro front bumper and center console were checked off. I like to create a back story for the models I build so here’s what I dreamed up for these two. Both these were ordered for dealer inventory at the same time. The coupe had the young male buyer in mind who didn’t have enough money to step up to the SS or Z28 models. Anyone who knows anything about the American street scene in the sixties and seventies knows you had to have a V8 lurking under the hood to have any street cread. The standard engine would have been an inline six, but this one had the optional 307 engine. For less than $200 the RS appearance package was a deal! So this option was checked off as well. Lastly, the rally rims were given the nod as well. The convertible was planned for the showroom floor. It had many options added to show how far you could take your Camaro! Once they arrived at the dealership the convertible was treated to a set of headers and Crager S/S rims. URL=https://imageshack.com/i/pmZEv5vwj] URL=https://imageshack.com/i/pm4vZIE7j] It is interesting that while both of these kits use a lot of the same tooling, Revell did an excellent job creating a whole new body and interior for the convertible. The coupe has the standard interior with hand cranks for the windows and the convertible has the deluxe interior and has power windows. Also there is a small block engine in the coupe, with the convertible getting a big block engine. Notice in the pictures that the convertible comes with separate chrome plated door handles, but the coupe has them molded in. Overall I enjoyed building these Camaros and think they build up into a great representation of the subject matter. However, I did experience a few fit issues, so I’d recommend test fitting everything before glueing.

These two builds look nothing short of outstanding Alan. Looks like you did wonders with both of them and that PE helped things out as well. Fit issues are common among alot of kits but you stuck it out and worked everything together nicely. Great work on these two.
I'll be working on seeing what we can do about the picture sizing issues you're having. Gimme a couple of days and we'll get it all sorted out.

Thanks for the feedback guys! These were a fun build and I’m happy with the way they turned out. Joe really came through with the PE parts! I wound up using more from that set than I had originally planned to use.
